Saturn Run by John Sandford, Ctein

Saturn RunSaturn Run by John Sandford
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

In the year 2066 an unidentified object is spotted approaching Saturn and slowing down speed as if to land. The government is sent into a flurry of activity trying to figure out how to build a ship that will make the journey to Saturn before the Chinese can launch their own mission in a race to see what is out there and obtain the technology that would be needed for such a ship.

I had such high hopes for this novel when I first read about it but unfortunately this is another case of it just wasn’t for me. The synopsis sounded like a great sci-fi thrill ride but to me it reads more like a text book with all the technological and scientific information constantly included which made the actual story and characters get buried under my boredom of information overload.

The first half or so reminded me greatly of the space race back in the sixties where the US was in a rush to be the first into space and then to actually land on the moon. It was the gathering of the team to take on the task, the building of a ship and all that should end up exciting waiting to see if they launch and make it to space but instead it’s detail after detail of every little part of the build. From there I’d hope it’d pick up but unfortunately it really didn’t.

In the end just not my cup of tea but not a bad read if you like overly descriptive technological details to support a plot.

I won this book from Goodreads First Reads.

Legion (The Dark Rituals Book 4) by Catrina Burgess

Legion (The Dark Rituals Book 4)Legion by Catrina Burgess
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Legion is the fourth and final book of the Dark Rituals series by Catrina Burgess so I won’t get too into what actually takes place in this book but a bit of a look back on what the series has been about.

Colina is a mage that grew up in a family of healers and had been studying to become a healer herself until a group of men came into her home and murdered her family. Fearing for her life and wanting revenge she seeks out a death dealer to learn the death arts to protect herself.

This book again picks up a short while after the one before. Colina and her friends are still fighting to banish the demon that was raised in the first book and fighting to save themselves from all the other problems that have stood in their way along the journey.

I actually enjoyed this series as a whole. All throughout the author has continued to add different abilities and things into this world so you never know what the characters will be able to do. Colina has gained death dealer powers mixed with her healer powers and has no idea what she has become but there are also other characters in the mix finding things they can do.

Each book has had a different thing within it to overcome during that book with an overall plot line that has carried on throughout the series which was also nice. There’s always a bit of a cliffhanger but also an end to one part of the story.

4 stars for this final installment of the series. I felt it’s picked up over the course of the books although book two was my least favorite of the group, once past that one it got a lot more exciting.

How To Break A Cowboy (Savage Tales, #1) by Daire St. Denis

How To Break A Cowboy (Savage Tales, #1)How To Break A Cowboy by Daire St. Denis
My rating: 1.5 of 5 stars

Tessa Savage has her two favorite cowboys at her beck and call until a new man walks into the picture. But what better way to solve the conflict between the three men than to bring Dallas into her life and bed along with Connor and Wade.

I picked up How to Break a Cowboy as an Amazon freebie and this one reminds me an awfully lot of the old saying you get what you paid for. In other words I wasn’t impressed with this at all.

The first problem with this book was the fact that after chapter one is over it jumps into an about the author and previews of other books section. Um, why? Someone really missed on the formatting and finishing up of this book.

But besides the weirdness of wading through other excerpts to get to the rest of the story there just really wasn’t even a story to speak of. If you are looking for nothing but an erotic read with multiple partners then maybe this would work for you but there wasn’t much else to it and I personally wasn’t impressed with what was there.

Overall, 1.5 stars.

The Siren by Kiera Cass

The SirenThe Siren by Kiera Cass
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Kahlen was meant to die eighty years ago but instead she was bound to the ocean to serve as a Siren luring unsuspecting humans to their death for a hundred years with the sound of her voice. Kahlen and her sisters move from city to city to hide what they are while living among the humans but when needed they return to the sea to sing.

When Kahlen meets Akinli he treats her differently than any human ever has speaking to her even though she can’t talk with him. She quickly finds herself falling in love with Akinli but with another twenty years on her contract with the ocean she finds herself struggling with who she is and what part she plays in so many deaths over the years.

The Siren is a love story with a bit of a twist with the main character being a Siren. Serving the ocean for a hundred years Kahlen has really only had her other Siren sisters in her life but after so much time she begins to see what she’s missing on land.

The overall story here was interesting enough to maintain my attention but there definitely were some slower parts throughout the book. There really wasn’t anything you wouldn’t expect to happen though in a romance read or anything amazingly different with what’s known of a Siren.

Overall I’d say 3.5 stars for this book, a bit slow moving but not too bad a fantasy romance.
