EXCERPT:

“This is unbelievable,” chirped Zoe as Spark walked up and gave Lyssa a high-five after the show.

“It’s a meat market, for sure. A man buffet for the taking,” Serene snapped back, watching the many submissives behaving so perfectly for their pleasures.

“So, what’s your story, Buttercup?” Serene inquired, eying Iris. Before Iris could respond, the entire cabaret felt a wave of silence engulf them as someone rivaling Sal stood by the entryway by Mullins.

“Who is that?” Serene whispered to Zoe.

“That is buffet delivery,” Kate announced as she rose up, striding intently towards Mullins and Mitch.

Engrossed in Kate’s next move, Serene focused her attention to Iris. “Who does it for you?”

Your hot Italian boy.

“I don’t know. I married my husband at eighteen. I never knew anything else.”

Serene brushed her arm against Iris. “Stop being so curious. And go find your truth, Buttercup. Be an active participant in your life.”

A shiver went down her spine as Serene stayed in her space long enough to make her uncomfortable. “You just want to spank me,” Iris contemptuously retorted.

Cackling softly, Serene lifted a brow, “Oh you are alive! And no.” She caught her eyes and countered, “I prefer whips… long, painful ones.”

Serene’s flirtatious words dripped like sex off the tip of her tongue onto Iris. “Sal is coming home with me tonight. If you want to come, here is my number. Send me a text at eleven. No one will know. The offer is good for tonight only.”

Zoe blinked at Iris subtly acquiescing that Serene inviting initiates home broke protocol. Initiates were to be seen and not touched, but she was Mistress Serene and always found a way to break, bend, contort, or render helpless the rules. An invitation from Serene—with or without Sal—proved to be a highly coveted piece in the Juliet puzzle.

The lights dimmed again, and a pulsing, gyrating beat came on as Kate returned to the table. Serene snapped, “What the hell did you just do?”

“Just taking care of business,” Kate quipped. “Knocking the head off the King, I suppose.”

“You have no clue what you have done,” Serene fumed.

The sexy young man appeared on stage, in his ripped jeans, t-shirt, and well-worn work boots. He stood stoic, deer in the headlights. The undulating roar soared to the stage from the rowdy crowd of women. Serene couldn’t believe Kate convinced Mitch to

get up on stage. She whispered to Zoe, “This place is about to get insane if he does it.”

“Oh, he’s gonna do it,” Kate spouted off confident of her new toy.

“I don’t know. He’s been still at least thirty-seconds,” Serene egged on with fighting words.

“He’ll do it,” Kate challenged. The music stopped abruptly and the lights fell dark again, leaving the audience full of boo’s. The blaring music of came on with the spotlight on his back. Shirtless, Mitch displayed several large tattoos and some scars.

“He’s terrified, Kate,” Serene warned. “He’s shaking for fucks sake.”

“He may be, but he has this. Trust me. You don’t do three tours in Afghanistan and not be able to do this,” Kate argued.

At the bar, Sal scoped out the women conspiring his future. He didn’t believe things could get any worse. He and Kate were done which also meant he and Serene were done. There was no relationship. There was no Mistress/slave. There was not even a sandwich over the evening news. So anywhere he could end up would not be any more abominable than his current situation.

Sal noticed Iris sitting with Serene, and he couldn’t help remembering how close he had come to making love to her. While he couldn’t understand why, Sal knew Iris was his game changer, but even she didn’t want to play with him.

Slamming his fifth whiskey, Sal couldn’t believe how the women, his legion of his fanatical followers, flirted with Mitch Daniels. The front-rowers drooled, going crazy over a spot that should be his. Sal couldn’t take being one-upped, so he did the only thing his bad boy knew he could get away with. Sprinting through the audience, Sal hopped up onto the stage.

Sal yelled, “I want to dance!”

“Oh god,” Kate mumbled, flabbergasted.

“You brought this on. He’s lives off the fuel of the crowd. Let him burn off the energy,” Serene admonished, stomping off to the bar with Zoe following. Torn between what she wanted to do, follow Zoe or stay with Kate, Iris upheld her obligation to friendship. Choosing the former, Iris glared condescendingly at Kate as she strutted off.

“Where are you going?” Kate pleaded, grasping Serene’s arm.

She jerked back quick, yanking Kate. Her ice blue eyes menacing, Serene sassed, “I’m going to clean up your fucking mess yet again. And while I am at it, you should stop playing head games with Sal. Let him go, Kate. Final and last warning. Because if you fuck with him one more time, I swear to God it will be the last thing you do at Juliet.”

Shaking his ass, Sal spun at the screaming women. He mouthed the words to the song at them, touching their fingertips all along the front row. Blowing kisses to them, they were clinging to Sal like horny groupies.

“Looks like the prize stallion broke out of his stall,” Zoe snickered to Iris.

Before Serene could get over to stop him, Sal made his way back to the DJ and changed the music to his standard Nine Inch Nails. And that could only mean one thing. The rowdy boy was about to tank the entire Quad-F.

“Fuck!” Serene roared.

To say a dance battle ensued would be incorrect, more of an up-the-ante-strip-a-thon. As soon as Sal got on stage he ripped his shirt off, tossing it at the groupies. He

wasn’t scheduled to perform tonight, but his competitive nature took hold at whatever price he would have to endure.

Word rampantly spread Sal had taken to the stage, drawing people to the cabaret for his impromptu performance like a syringe to a vial, sucking each and every one of them into his world. No one could pack a house like Sal, and tonight was no exception. It didn’t matter who else inhabited the stage.

Sal Raniero was.

Teymour Talks About The First Review of His Book:

EXCERPT:

The Metropolitan Times

June 24, 196…

At nine o’clock yesterday morning, following ninety days of fruitless searching, billionaire industrialist and businessman Lyndon Surway was officially pronounced dead. Mr. Surway was last seen by members of his staff departing from the main airplane hangar of his estate a few minutes past eight in the morning, flying alone aboard one of his aircraft. His last recorded words to the command center

crew of his hangar were: “Clear skies and mild winds. Perfect visibility, or as perfect as I could hope, for as long as I can tell. Gentlemen, I wish you a thorough enjoyment of this fine day.” Nothing unusual was noted in his language or behavior.

The late Mr. Surway often took his plane out with no stated destination. But this time, he failed to return at the customary hour of six in the evening. As no word had been received from him, the kitchens were advised that he would likely dine outside. At ten o’clock on the following morning, when there was still no news of Mr. Surway or his aircraft, the Steward of the House alerted the municipal, state, and federal authorities, and a search began for the missing magnate. But no airport, hotel, hospital or inn within fuel’s range of the estate could provide any information. Dozens of interviews bore no result. Countless journalists and detectives rushed in from every corner of the country, but none of them could unearth a single clue regarding Mr. Surway’s whereabouts. Not even the Steward could guess where Mr. Surway had gone. On the morning of his disappearance, Mr. Surway had only told him: “My day is free and so am I.”

Fifteen infantry troops were dispatched, with over a hundred hound dogs, across more than two hundred miles of hills and valleys surrounding the town of Spring Forge, where Mr. Surway lived. The infantry and the dogs found nothing. The Air Force then loaned eighteen jet-powered aircraft to continue the search. The Navy joined the effort with five ships, sixteen helicopters, and four submarines to scour the coastal regions, islands, and ocean floor within flying range of the Eastern Seaboard. Again nothing was found. Finally then, a large-scale search was conducted through the grounds and the buildings of Surway House itself, led by seven hundred volunteers from Spring Forge and other towns throughout the valley. Still they found nothing. Yesterday marked three months since Mr. Surway’s disappearance. The aircraft was legally declared lost, and its owner deceased. Mr. Surway, estimated for each of the past twelve years to be the wealthiest man in the Western Hemisphere, leaves behind no known relatives.

EXCERPT:

Trent sat in his truck, just down the street from his home, holding the tiny box in his hand. Deftly he flipped it over and over again with his fingers, watching the burgundy velvet spin. When was the right time to ask a woman to marry you? His fear was that his past would constantly find its way back into his present. Could he drag Teal into muck and mire of his past?

After buying the ring and allowing Katie to fawn over it, he’d spoken to Logan. Though his friend had tried to assuage his concerns, he’d only added to them. Logan’s

past was still a major topic of concern with Katie, so much so, they were seeking counseling. Trent couldn’t imagine fucking up Teal’s life so bad she’d need to talk to some doctor about his failures.

Logan had promised they’d both agreed it was necessary, but Trent could hear the disquiet in his best friend’s voice. He feared losing her and his children. And while Logan and Trent faced different demons, both fought a battle in which losing would cost them more than they could afford.

For the first time since he and Teal discussed moving in together, Trent wondered if moving to Vermont might just be the better option. He wondered if he could sacrifice the freedom of living without a mortgage and being his own boss. How selfish was it of him to demand Teal sacrifice her job and security, when he hadn’t considered doing the same?

Away in Montana (The Douglas Ranch of Paradise Valley Book 1) by Jane Porter

Away in Montana (The Douglas Ranch of Paradise Valley Book 1)Away in Montana by Jane Porter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

McKenna Frasier had fallen for Sinclair Douglas when the pair were very young and McKenna has the opportunity to tutor Sinclair. But McKenna’s family was incredibly wealthy and Sinclair’s father simply worked in the mines which seemed to also be the path that Sinclair himself would head down one day.

When it came time for McKenna to leave for college and an introduction to society she pledged her love to Sinclair but as the years past McKenna found herself to be having to much fun in the big city to return to Montana and Sinclair. But then the day came that McKenna’s reputation came into question and she had to return home a shamed woman after which her father disowned her.

Now making a life for herself as a schoolteacher McKenna finds herself crossing paths with Sinclair once again. Sinclair had waited patiently behind for McKenna and made something of himself while she was gone but McKenna finds herself not trusting anyone after her experience in the city so will there be any hope for this pair after all this time?

Away in Montana is the first book of the Douglas Ranch of Paradise Valley series. What I didn’t realize when I picked this one up was that this particular read is actually historical fiction and takes place back in 1889. This was actually a lovely surprise to get to visit the small towns life of Montana that I’ve read about in many other stories but back while the towns were being formed.

The story had great characters to go along with the lovely setting and really seemed authentic to the times. It’s a clean romance where the characters do share a past together but need to overcome things years later to hopefully find their happily ever after in the story. I’d definitely recommend this one to any fan of historical romance.

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
