About the book:
An irresistible and suspenseful romance between a tough Texas Ranger and his first love—a woman in danger who insists she doesn’t need his protection—from the New York Times bestselling author of the Marked Men series.
Hill Gamble is a model lawman: cool and collected, with a confident swagger to boot. Too bad all that Texas charm hasn’t gotten him anywhere in his personal life, especially since the only girl he ever loved has always been off-limits. But then Hill is assigned to investigate her father’s mysterious death, and he’s forced back to the town—and the woman—he left behind.
When Hill left Loveless, he broke Kody Lawton’s already battered heart. And now that he’s working on her father’s case, avoiding him is impossible. She can handle Hill and her unwanted feelings—until he puts his life on the line to protect her. Suddenly, Kody realizes that Hill could be taken away from her … for good.
Unforgiven by Jay Crownover is the second full length book in the romantic suspense Loveless, Texas series. The series actually opened with Unbroken, a prequel novella before the first full length novel. All of the books in the series though can be read in any order or as standalone novels since the location is the theme of the series with the main characters changing book to book. There is mentions of previous characters though for those that follow the series from the beginning.
Years ago Hill Gamble couldn’t get out of Loveless, Texas fast enough. You see Hill fell in love with the one person in town he shouldn’t have, Kody Lawton. Hill and Kody had known each other forever with Hill loving her all that time but Kody had instead fallen in love with Hill’s younger brother, Aaron, and married him. Aaron however had mental health issues that brought Kody and Hill close together to help manage them until the day Aaron took his own life.
Now Hill finds himself brought back to Loveless on a case that will have him working closely with Kody yet again. Kody’s estranged father, Conrad Lawton, was the town’s former sheriff who was believed to be corrupt. When Conrad is murdered HIll is brought in to work the case with a hostile Kody who is only trying to protect her heart from another Gamble brother.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
