About the book:
The bestselling author of the The Swap explores what happens when a seemingly perfect family is pushed to the edge… and beyond in this “propulsive, constantly surprising” (Laurie Elizabeth Flynn, author of The Girls Are All So Nice Here) thriller.
Thomas and Viv Adler are the envy of their neighbors: attractive, successful, with well-mannered children and a beautifully restored home.
Until one morning, when they wake up to find their porch has been pelted with eggs. It’s a prank, Thomas insists; the work of a few out-of-control kids. But when a smoke bomb is tossed on their front lawn, and their car’s tires are punctured, the family begins to worry. Surveillance cameras show nothing but grainy images of shadowy figures in hoodies. And the police dismiss the attacks, insisting they’re just the work of bored teenagers. Unable to identify the perpetrators, the Adlers are helpless as the assaults escalate into violence, and worse. And each new violation brings with it a growing fear. Because everyone in the Adler family is keeping a secret—not just from the outside world, but from each other. And secrets can be very dangerous….
This twisty, addictively page-turning suspense novel about a perfect family’s perfect façade will keep you turning pages until its explosive ending.

When you pick up a book with the title The Perfect Family you know this family is going to be far from perfect, right? The Perfect Family by Robyn Harding is a thrilling and suspenseful novel about one family that on the outside may seem perfect to others but have many many flaws and secrets galore between them.
Thomas and Viv Adler are the type of couple that enjoy their shiny, pretty things wanting to have the best house, the best cars and be the envy of those around them. Thomas and Viv also have raised two teenagers and believe that they will both be just as successful and happy as Thomas and Viv are themselves. Right, now for the truth.
One night the Adler’s have their home attack when eggs are thrown at the front window. Each of the family look to themselves as possibly being the reason the home was targeted. Thomas had a shady weekend with friends, Viv has been taking small things around town, Eli has returned home from college and is in hiding from his former teammates, and the youngest Adler, Tarryn, has a whole secret life. As the attacks continue to happen everyone does their best to hold onto their own secrets as their shiny, pretty world crumbles around them.
Addictive certainly was a good way to describe this book. It started off a bit like one of those family popcorn dramas that pull me in as I learn all about the family’s flaws while munching on some popcorn. The intensity did ramp up though bringing a more thrilling vibe as the author layered the story wonderfully and as a reader I began to peel back the layers. I would have almost scored this one a little higher but in the excitement and twistiness of the end I think not everything may have been fully uncovered but definitely worth the read regardless.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

About the author:
I didn’t like this quite as much as you did Carrie and gave it 3.5 stars because I didn’t like the characters or the ending. That said, I completely agree with you about the story itself. It’s a fun popcorn read.

I didn’t like her last book, so was wary of this one, but I might give it a go if the library gets it. Nice review Carrie.
