A Round of Quickie Reviews…..

coollogo_com-16977441

The biggest portion of these are Amazon freebies for my Kindle. I’ve always admitted I have a very bad habit of pretty much downloading anything I can that’s free and sometimes that pays off with a really fun read but let’s face it most of the time they can be rather meh. To save time on these I’ve decided to just toss together a couple of big posts to get myself caught up (hopefully).

Two Week SurrenderTwo Week Surrender by Hayson Manning

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Two Week Surrender by Hayson Manning was a freebie contemporary romance novella that wasn’t bad but not overly memorable either. Sort of a small town girl ready to get out of dodge but that bad boy comes back into her life and wants to settle down. As the cover suggests with this one there are some steamy moments, characters were just average and nothing really that would stick with me down the road and make this one wow me.

Gehenna (West of Hell #1)Gehenna by Jason Brant

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Gehenna by Jason Brant is the first book of the West of Hell series. This one is sort of a western crossed with horror. We have the outlaw, Mad Dog McCall, stuck in jail in the town of Gehenna when basically a zombie apocalypse breaks out. All out mayhem as the locals turn on each other as each are turned. Nice to pass the time for a horror fan but again this one wouldn’t necessarily stick with a reader long either.

Bound (Forbidden, #1)Bound by Melody Anne

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Bound by Melody Anne is the first book of the Forbidden series. This one is an erotic romance read that dare I say is pretty much like a 50 Shades knock off. The one thing that I found a tad different was the set up to the story of how the two come together. Jewell’s in her early twenties and had given up her job to take care of her mother who had been battling cancer along with her younger brother. When her mother passed away Jewell was jobless and desperate hoping to find something to take care of herself and her brother before she lost him to the system. In walks a too good to be true job opportunity at an “escort” service where rich/troubled guy falls for her and takes her home to “boss” around so to speak. Nothing amazing but if you like the genre it’s a quick read to pass some time.

Graveyard Shift (Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc., #1)Graveyard Shift by Angela Roquet

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Graveyard Shift by Angela Roquet is the first book of the Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc. series. This one is a paranormal urban fantasy in which the main character is a reaper. Lana Harvey doesn’t like her position of being a reaper and scrapes by collecting the minimum of souls that she can. This one reminded me heavily of a show I’d once watched that I can’t quite recall the name of but that means I didn’t find it overly original either. That also made it a bit tougher to really connect with this sarcastic afterlife with Lana but not a bad read either just a bit of that take it or leave it time passer feeling.

Batter Up (Bachelors of Buttermilk Falls, #1)Batter Up by Robyn Neeley

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Batter Up by Robyn Neeley is the first book of the contemporary romance Bachelors of Buttermilk Falls series. This one is a light hearted romance with a touch of magic with Emma Stevens owning a bakery where she conjures up the name of the local males soul mates. Of course not everyone thinks Emma is on the up and up but when trying to prove her a fraud sparks fly instead. Another quick romance read at a fairly short length so of course it lacks a ton of depth but still a cute story overall.

Forbidden Knowledge 101: The Stuff That Your Parents And School Never Taught YouForbidden Knowledge 101: The Stuff That Your Parents And School Never Taught You by Franklin Keen

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Forbidden Knowledge 101: The Stuff That Your Parents And School Never Taught You by Franklin Keen is a non-fiction title that is supposed to uncover all of the secret techniques that cult leaders, scam artists and thieves use. Picking it up I’m thinking hey this may be interesting but after actually diving into it I started thinking well duh, this is all common sense. But hey, maybe it’s me though as people do fall for the things talked about in here although I was hoping for something a bit more to it than what I found.

Hope For Christmas (A Cowboy Way Novella)Hope For Christmas by Becky McGraw

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Hope For Christmas by Becky McGraw is an additional novella added to the contemporary romance Cowboy Way series. One might take a peek at this cover and think um, no but the story was actually better than the cover suggested. Cord Dixon who was a male model gets fired when he turns down the boss so he gets desperate and takes on the job of mall Santa. Hope Carlisle also desperate for a job finds herself tackling the job of becoming an ‘elf’ photographer thus bringing the two together. Not amazing but better than I expected it to actually be.

  2. Not bad overall for a bunch of freebies. I have so many that I need to read and review, I will never get to them all. I have stopped with the freebies lately. Good way to get a bunch of reviews for them completed.

    • I’ve seen others do much the same and finally thought to myself I’ve got to do something to clear the backlog. It takes me longer to set up a review post than it does to read most of these shorter ones so it’s definitely a less stressful way to do it. 🙂
