About the book:

Jessie Hewitt thought her pool-hustling days were long gone. But when uber-hunky cop Wilson Rye asks her to go undercover to catch a killer, she jumps at the chance to return to a sleazy poolroom. Jessie is confident she can handle a double homicide, but the doubly-annoying Wilson Rye is another matter altogether. What’s he doing flirting with a woman half his age? Will Jessie have what it takes to deal with Tiffany La-Dee-Doo-Da Sass and solve the murders? Take a guess.

Double Shot by Cindy Blackburn is the second book of the cozy Cue Ball Mysteries series. Each book of this series will feature it’s on mystery to be solved so they can be read as a standalone if choosing to do so.

The first book of the series introduced Jessie Hewitt who has a bit of a double dose of quirkiness to her as a cozy character. Jessie grew up learning to shoot pool and can take the best of them when challenged to a game but she also makes her living as a romance novelist under a pen name.

In this second book of the series Jessie and the detective investigating the case in the first mystery have begun a romance together. Wilson Rye has been called in to investigate a new murder which he shares with Jessie needing her help going undercover as a pool shark since no one in the police department shares her talent of the game.

Again, with this series I felt about the same as I had with the first book, it’s cute enough to be entertaining but doesn’t always feel realistic. Jessie’s actions don’t always match what her age is supposed to be and other moments in the stories don’t seem to flow as well as they could. I won’t touch the police pulling her into the investigation as it’s fiction and I suppose anything is possible but in the end it’s still good for a few laughs and a few hours entertainment.

About the author:

Cindy Blackburn writes cozy mysteries because she thinks grim reality is way overrated. When she’s not thinking up unlikely plot twists and ironing out the quirks and kinks of her lovable characters, Cindy is feeding her fat cat Betty or taking long walks with her cute hubby John. A native Vermonter who hates snow, Cindy divides her time between the south and the north. Most of the year you’ll find her in South Carolina. But come summer she’ll be on the porch of her lakeside shack in Vermont. Yep, it’s a place very similar to Lake Elizabeth. Cindy’s favorite TV show is The Big Bang Theory, her favorite movie is Moonstruck, and her favorite color is purple. Cindy dislikes vacuuming, traffic, and lima beans.
