Clowders
Vanessa Morgan
Publication date: March 1st 2018
Genres: Adult, Supernatural, Thriller
Clervaux, Luxembourg. This secluded, picturesque town in the middle of Europe is home to more cats than people. For years, tourists have flocked to this place – also known as “cat haven” – to meet the cats and buy cat-related souvenirs.
When Aidan, Jess and their five-year-old daughter, Eleonore, move from America to Clervaux, it seems as if they’ve arrived in paradise. It soon becomes clear, though, that the inhabitants’ adoration of their cats is unhealthy. According to a local legend, each time a cat dies, nine human lives are taken as a punishment. To tourists, these tales are supernatural folklore, created to frighten children on cold winter nights. But for the inhabitants of Clervaux, the danger is darkly, horrifyingly real.
Initially, Aidan and Jess regard this as local superstition, but when Jess runs over a cat after a night out in the town, people start dying, one by one, and each time it happens, a clowder of cats can be seen roaming the premises.
Are they falling victim to the collective paranoia infecting the entire town? Or is something horrible waiting for them? Something unspeakably evil.
Aidan and Jess’ move to Europe may just have been the worst decision they ever made.

This sounds pretty interesting and that cover is awesome but marketing it as the female Stephen king is making the author live up to a lot for sure. I love the kitties on the covers! Creepy kitties. lol.

I love this one when I saw it too…. reminded me of Pet Sematary…. but that makes me wonder if there will be any originality and then to see the comparison…

The premise sounds interesting and super spooky.Like Dani, I think the comparison with King maybe setting up the author in a way. I really get disappointed when books are marketed in comparison with other successful titles and then they fail to meet expectations.

I agree, I don’t think I’m familiar with any of her work previously and I’m a big fan of horror so I’d think I would have noticed someone on King’s level.

This sounds a little too much like Pet Semetary which is one of two Stephen King books (the other one was Cujo) that freaked me out so badly, I still have occasional nightmares. I think I’ll give this a pass.😱

You know how I am with horror so it worries me that I would just be complaining of nothing new. I can probably blame Pet Semetary for my freaked out nature of always worrying about getting hit by a car though. Well, it didn’t help either that in grade school I saw another little girl get hit by one after getting off our bus but I still cringe just thinking of that scene in that book too and have this look both ways like ten times nature about me. 😦
