Back in the 1980s serial killers were terrorizing America slashing their way through college campuses, quiet suburbs, and lakeside cabins. Bobbi Metzger was sixteen at the time when a killer slashed their way through Bobbi’s birthday party leaving her the lone survivor on that fateful night.
Now, thirty years later, Bobbi has spent decades trying to pull her life together and recover from that horrific night. Always on the lookout Bobbi just knows that the horror is still out there and will come for her one day. Little does Bobbi know that now she’ll have to face a new killer that is determined to open a doorway to an abyss of unimaginable horror.
Mask Beneath Her Face by Rafael Chandler is definitely not for the faint of heart as this one is straight up gore and mayhem from the opening pages. The author has taken the idea of those slasher films of the eighties and gone a step farther with the survivors bringing them once again to the brink of bloody mayhem.
After finishing this book I had one of those what the heck did I just read moments?? But in this case that was a good feeling as the story while reminding me of the old slasher movies also took on a life of it’s own instead of feeling like other things already out there. This one would be for those that were fans of things like Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm St and just didn’t get enough with the multiple films and want to go one step further.

Hmm. This sounds a little like Disturbed, by Jennifer Jayne.🤔 But With 4 Stars from you, I think I need to go look this up.😊
Oh! And that cover with the two hooks forming a heart with the creepy spider in the middle? Yikes!😱
Oh no, nothing like that one. Think slasher films where the killer just won’t die and shows up everywhere they hide then fast forward thirty years to the survivors of those supernatural killers beginning all over again all the while worried their old killer will return. Just blood and guts galore. LOL

I’m surprised you didn’t already catch this one on Netgalley. That cover just popped right out at me and I was a bit hesitant to pick up a horror book but it just kept screaming read me read me. LOL

As much as that beginning sounds similar it’s nothing like that kind of story but more campy horror. Think of all those movies with the bad guy slashing everyone like crazy but just keeps on coming when attacked himself.
This is what happens when she does behave, I find them and tempt her anyway. But it always works the other way too unfortunately. LOL

The other week a brown recluse spider started crawling up my blanket while O was reading in bed! I flipped the hell out! I jumped up and started screaming “Ahhh SPIDER!!” I was dancing around and jumped on the bed thinking it was all over me! Even though said spider was eliminated I couldn’t sleep on my bed!!!😱😱😱 I’m such a girl when it comes to spiders!😊
Spiders don’t bother me as long as they stay in their space and out of mine. Crawl on me and get your rear squished. LOL

Thanks so much for the review, Carrie! You’re dead right (no pun intended): I was definitely inspired by Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, and all the other legendary slashers of 1980s horror cinema. I’m extremely gratified to hear that the cover artwork had an effect on some of you!
