Vexed by a Viscount is a lovely historical romance novella where we meet Prudence Landon who has always done everything expected of her to be a good daughter. When her parents arrange a marriage to a Squire who is unfortunately older than her own father she obviously has some reservations and decides to break a few rules in the two weeks before the marriage.

The story starts as Prudence is checking items off of her list of things to do to enjoy life before her marriage by swimming naked in the daytime in her neighbors lake. She knew the couple were supposed to be away but as she is in the lake she hears a horse approaching. It is the young Viscount Ashby who has come home.

Prudence has known the Viscount her whole life but since he was bethrothed from childhood she has not interacted with Ashby. He finding her situation amusing accepts a dinner invitation from Prudence’s father that very evening to find out what had she been thinking. When learning of her list he insists upon helping her complete it and the two quickly become friends.

A lovely quick read. All of the language and situations seem fitting of the time. Prudence was a lovely character that was fun to have her find her strength and self throughout the book. Ashby was more than a gentlemen definitely more of the man Prudence deserved in her life.
