Seeing Evil by Jason Parent
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Detective Samantha Reilly gets called to a homicide, a husband has shot his wife and lover and then turned the gun on himself. At the scene is then toddler Michael Turcotte. Michael ends up in the foster care system but Sam stays close to him over the years and frequently checks in on him and spends time with him.
When a couple of high school bullies attack Michael he has his first vision. He see an upcoming murder and doesn’t know how to stop what he is sure is going to really happen so he turns to his longtime friend and mentor Sam. Sam is not sure whether to believe him or even how to go about stopping something that hasn’t even happened yet.
Seeing Evil is one of those books that takes off at a fast pace and doesn’t slow down for the entire book. There is always something going on in the story to keep the reader hooked. It switches up the POV between several characters which really adds to the depth and getting to know the whole story and characters.
Some parts of the book are quite gruesome which adds to the intensity of the bone chilling situations. Definitely well written thriller that I’d highly recommend picking up.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
30 Days by Christine d’Abo
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I won this book from Goodreads First Reads.
Alyssa lost her husband Rob to cancer two years ago. She has been simply going through the motions with her life and trying to adapt to living without Rob. The two had been high school sweethearts and Alyssa had never known another boyfriend or lover before Rob and didn’t think she could ever be with someone again.
Before Rob passed away he encouraged Alyssa to continue to live her life. He wanted her to find be happy and find someone when he was gone. Rob had made up Alyssa a package with a letter and some cards telling her to open when she felt attracted to another man again and felt she was ready to move on.
Two years after Rob’s death Alyssa gets a new neighbor and for the first time in a long time she feels the attraction to a man. She then decides to open Rob’s letter and finds he has made a challenge for her. 30 cards with 30 different sexual tasks on them and challenges her to go out and have some fun and attempt the things on the cards.
I absolutely loved this book. You can’t help but feel for Alyssa and cheer her on in her tasks of discovering her sexuality without Rob and simply living her life and feeling again. Harrison also was an easily liked character with his sense of humor and his sensitivity to Alyssa.
There’s obviously a lot of sex in a book with the topic being 30
days of sex but I quite honestly found this relationship more touching than a book that is meant to be romance only. Also rather erotic too so the best of both worlds.
Great characters, great story, highly recommend it.
The Iron Assassin by Ed Greenwood
My rating: 1 of 5 stars
I won this book from Goodreads First Reads.
I have to say I had hopes for this one. Great cover and something new to try. But I’m giving up on it for now after 128 pages. The story seems to jump around everywhere without much progress or sense to it. I was a bit concerned with the several pages at the start listing a ton of characters and after reading as much as I have I seemed to be right in thinking there isn’t much character development in the actual story. Jumps from one thing to another and gets too much to keep track of for my taste. I may return and give it another try someday and would revise my review if I change my mind but for now this is disappointment to me.
Hostile Takeover by Shane Kuhn
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I won this book from Goodreads First Reads.
Hostile Takeover is the sequel to The Intern’s Handbook. It features John Lago, an assassin and his wife Alice who is also an assassin and John’s former nememsis. The two team up to takeover Human Resourses Inc.. a training and placement organization for assassins.
The book is a fast paced action adventure. John and Alice have a rather dysfunctional relationship as in they are either in love or trying to kill each other throughout the story. The book jumps back and forth telling the story of how John ended up in FBI custody.
Quick read with some funny parts to it. Not my normal type of book but would recommended to those who love action.
Something About You by Julie James
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I won this book from Goodreads First Reads.
Good fun, quick read full of a lot of hot and steamy chemistry between Cameron and Jack plus a bit of suspense to top it off. You do find out who the killer is fairly early on but the rest of the story is waiting for his next move and for him to be caught while the sparks are flying while Jack is protecting Cameron.
