Life in the Lucky Zone

Seventeen-year-old Lindsey Taylor has been living a charmed life—always the lead in school plays, possessor of a healthy entourage and a hot boyfriend. But halfway through her junior year, the unthinkable happens. Her boyfriend dumps her. She screws up her audition for the spring play. And to top it all off, her theater teacher wants her to run lines with Trey Berger, a gamer guy who irritates her practically every time he opens his mouth. Lindsey needs to find some better luck and quick.

Trey Berger can barely tolerate Lindsey Taylor. It’s bad enough that their best friends are dating and he has to see Lindsey at group hangouts. Now they have to rehearse together. Berger would rather do just about anything else, even chill with his grandmother, whose dementia has forced her to move in with his family.

But as the semester continues, Berger discovers there’s more to Lindsey than the drama queen

persona she puts on for everyone else’s benefit. And the person behind the mask might be someone he cares about. A lot. So what exactly is he going to do about it?

And while Lindsey desperately tries to change her luck and heal from the breakup, she slowly realizes Berger has become her best friend. This video-game-playing boy makes her laugh. And holds her when she cries. Could he possibly become something more?

Not everything dangerous is bad.

From the moment Angelina laid eyes on him, she fell into a fantasy. Mysterious, foreign, gorgeous, Haithem offered her what she needed most—a chance to feel again.

But Haithem is much more than he appears to be. He lives in a world of danger where everything comes at a price.

For Angelina, that price is her future.

He’s made sure the life she’s left behind is in tatters. Made her family believe she’s dead. Still, he talks about protecting her, about keeping her safe, but she can’t distinguish his truth from his lies. She can’t separate her pleasure from his betrayal.

Haithem warned her. He told her he’d make her heart race, her body come alive and her most primal needs rush to the surface. His for the taking.

He didn’t say she’d come to love the devil who’s destroying her, even as he keeps her prisoner.

Blue Waters (A Tainted Water Novella Book 1) by India R. Adams

Blue Waters (A Tainted Water Novella Book 1)Blue Waters by India R. Adams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When out with her friends at the movies one night, seventeen year old Whitney meets Crash who she immediately thinks of as Mr. Lickable. He’s sexy and intriguing and the two immediately have a connection. But when Whitney invites Crash along on a night out with her friends, her best friend Link finds out who Crash really is, he’s the son of a drug dealer that was involved in Whitney’s brother’s death.

Wow, just wow. Blue Waters is one of those books that while it looked intriguing it just turned into way more than I was expecting when I picked it up. The writing is somewhat on the poetic side, the characters were just so likable and the plot went from fun to completely intense in the blink of an eye. I started off the story laughing but by the end was on the edge of my seat.

Novellas often lack a lot of depth but with this one I felt like I really got to know everyone and enough of the story that I was completely hooked. With the wonderful writing I could feel the characters emotions, the laughter, the friendship, the love and the pain. What a great start to this series, I will definitely be adding the next book to my to read list.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Time to Run, Time to Hide and Time to Steal by John Gilstrap

Time to Run (Nick of Time #1)Time to Run by John Gilstrap
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Time to Run is the first installment of a five part book series by author John Gilstrap. Seventeen year old Nicki Janssen had overcome an eating disorder only to then lose her mother to cancer. While grieving for her mother Nicki had resumed her obsession with weight loss and had turned to diet pills. The pills however had side effects ending up putting Nicki in the hospital herself and without a heart and lungs transplant she finds herself with only a year left to live.

Not wanting to live out her remaining time hooked to machines and with little hope of living long enough for a transplant Nicki has decided to run away with a boy from her childhood. Nicki’s father is a prosecutor and teams up with his law enforcement buddies trying to track Nicki only to find out that the boy in question is wanted for murder.

What a great beginning to this series. A definite page turner that got me hooked on the story right away. Nicki is one you can’t help but feel for with the girl having gone through so much in her seventeen years. Her father, Carter, is a tough as nails attorney that just wants what’s best for his daughter but doesn’t know how to communicate with her after the loss of his wife, Nicki’s mother. And Brad obviously has a story behind him that I’m very anxious to find out about.

Overall, a fast paced wonderful start to this series that has me jumping right into part 2.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Time to Hide (Nick of Time #2)Time to Hide by John Gilstrap
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Time to Hide is the second installment of a five part book series by author John Gilstrap. In Time to Hide the action continues and becomes more intense with Nicki being with Brad. Brad is determined to give Nicki some of her dreams and make her last months to live happy ones but Nicki’s father is determined to track the pair down.

Definitely still hooked on this story, it just seems to get more and more intense as the pages go by. Great writing and enjoying the different points of view from all the characters involved so that you know just what is happening with each. Looking forward to seeing where this one heads in Time to Steal.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Time to Steal (Nick of Time #3)Time to Steal by John Gilstrap
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Time to Steal is the third installment of five in the Nick of Time series by John Gilstrap. In Time to Steal Nicki and Brad are truly on the run from not only Nicki’s father but law enforcement too. I would warn that this the series is getting a bit dark with not only violence but rape mentioned.

Each book so far has just gotten more and more exciting and action packed. Completely enjoying this series and hope to be able to finish with it sometime, right now I only have the first three books so I will be impatiently waiting to see how this will all turn out.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

“We might not be friends, Sadie. But we are something.”

She moved her head so that Simon let go of her chin. “You used to tell me that I was your everything. Your port in a storm. Your sanctuary when you came back from a mission. Did you ever wonder what you were to me? You were the man who always disappeared. The man who was there, but only until your phone rang. I loved you, but you were a ghost to me. Is that the ‘something’ you mean?”

“Sadie.” He looked devastated, and she cursed herself for saying those things. As true as they were, she hadn’t wanted to explore their relationship right then. Nor ever if truth be told.

“But that’s all just history, isn’t it?” she said, trying to sound flip.

He leaned in. She knew he meant to kiss her, and she wanted to move, wanted to slap his face and run. That’s what she should have done.

Instead she allowed her mouth to open slightly as her eyes fluttered closed. Just one kiss. A safe, goodbye kiss…and then all rational thought escaped her.

His tongue touched hers and her senses and nerve endings came alive. He felt like home. A dark, impenetrable, warm and sexy home. Her heartbeat raced and butterflies heralded the coming of spring in her stomach. He still wanted her. She still wanted him. She didn’t care about anything else.

She held his face as she stood and climbed astride his thighs, still kissing him. His hands went to her breasts, running the backs of his hands over the swell above her neckline. And then he found the zipper of the dress, and pulled it down to her waist.

He yanked her toward him and put his mouth around her nipples, through her bra. As he sucked and bit she arched her back, aching for him to make her feel more. And more.

She grabbed his short hair and rammed her mouth against his. She wanted to hurt him, to be hurt by him, to bruise her mouth, so she’d be sure him being here wasn’t some crazy illusion. But mostly so he’d regret lying to her and leaving her.

His dick strained against his cargo pants, and she ground herself against it, moving her hips so that she could feel the whole length of him.

“Stop,” he whispered, out of breath. “Not like this. I don’t want to hurt you.”

“Now you decide you don’t want to hurt me?” she whispered back.

His hand splayed against her throat, dragging his fingers slowly from her chin to her bra. His mouth followed, slow and firm. She wanted to protest, but his tongue snaked a hot trail over her pulse points making her heart race. She’d protest in a minute.

“You’ve changed so much,” he murmured against her throat.

She was about to respond when he found his way under her skirt to her panties. He slipped under them as if he was trained in stealth. Which, come to think of it, he was.
