And his laughter booms in the quiet night. And seeing him laugh makes me want to smile right along with him. And I want to hold on to that feeling a bit longer. One of my hands slowly reaches out and my fingers trail down his cheek while my other hand falls on his knee. He stops laughing. His gaze turns hungry.

“I’m not really thirsty anymore,” I whisper. Our eyes lock. The tension crackling between us gets even more intense. He leans in and I hold my breath. We’re lost in the moment, in the anticipation, in that one second. That one second before a first kiss. I bridge the tiny distance between us and when our lips meet, I breathe again.

Five years ago three teenagers went into the woods to work on a school project. When the three didn’t return home a massive search took place but only one of the teens was found, Amber Ryder. She has suffered a serious concussion and other injuries but could not remember the events of what had happened when questioned after she was found.

Opening up the case again forensic technician Georgia Morgan is determined to find out what happened in the woods that day and where the missing two teens went. When another body is found Georgia makes gruesome discovery at the site, the missing remains of the case she had just opened.
Now with a killer on the loose that seems to have returned after five years Georgia teams up with Homicide Detective Jake Bishop to untangle the clues and put the killer behind bars once and for all.

Vulnerable is the fourth book in the Morgans of Nashville series by Mary Burton. I have not read the first three books myself but I do believe this one read find as a standalone novel and didn’t feel that I had missed out by not having read the prior stories.

This book is full of twists and turns sure to keep the reader on the edge of their seat and with an ending that was certainly mind blowing. The characters were engaging once I got to know them, there was a slightly slow start to it for me but I thought maybe that would be from not reading the others but it didn’t take too terribly long to get to know everyone and become completely hooked.

I would not however really consider this a romantic suspense read. The romance is certainly put on the back burner with very little flirty interactions and much more focus on the case and police work. A part of me was wishing for a bit more in that department but I was too involved in who the killer was to worry too much about it being missing.

Overall, a great thriller read that I’d certainly recommend.
