Publication date: April 22nd 2016
Genres: Post-Apocalyptic, Young Adult
Civilization, collapsed. Society, gone.
The apocalypse rules all, and mankind struggles for survival.
But there was a dog, and his name was Bravo.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
First, there was the training.
Bravo, a strong and loyal German Shepherd, is born and raised to be a bomb detection dog in the Marines by his handler, Nathan Ingalls. Together, they prepare to become fighters.
After the training, there was the desert.
Deployed to Afghanistan, the brutality of desert warfare shows no mercy to neither man nor dog.
And then, there was the Collapse.
When the apocalypse strikes, Bravo is cruelly torn from his handler in the dying days of society. Bravo fights for survival in the city, longing to be reunited with his handler, his friend.
His journey will take him into the most dangerous parts of the city and country, into the heart of the apocalypse. He will meet new friends, and he will fight for them.
Bravo will not stop until he finds his partner.
This is the story of a dog. This is the story of a hero.
This is the story of Bravo, the bomb dog, and his apocalypse mission.
GUEST POST:
Think Like A Dog
By Summer Lane
The most interesting part of writing Bravo: Apocalypse Mission was being able to look at the apocalypse through the eyes of a dog. What does he see? What does he care about? How does he survive, and more importantly, how does he deal with loss?
I’ve always loved dogs, so it was a great treat to be able to write this story. I had the idea a little over a year ago. Bravo himself was inspired by an offhand comment from a child who had read my books and exclaimed, “You should write about a dog in the apocalypse!” From that comment, I immediately pictured Bravo in my head. And thus he was born! First as a sidekick in The Zero Trilogy, and now as the star of his very own story. I had always wanted to write a story about a dog, and this was my chance.
I think the most challenging thing about getting into the head of a dog is realizing that 1) dogs don’t necessarily have a reason for everything they do. They simply do it because they are creatures of instinct. And 2) a dog can be just as emotional as people when it comes to losing a friend or handler. I had to find a balance between instinct and emotion when it came to writing Bravo’s adventure, and I think I was able to locate the sweet spot and make it work!

(Isolation #1)
Published by: Limitless Publishing
Publication date: January 26th 2016
Genres: Post-Apocalyptic, Science Fiction, Young Adult

After an epidemic spreads through the country, Brooklyn Harper’s high school years come to an abrupt end.
Implanted in a rural camp, Brooklyn and her friends are cut off from their families and the outside world. Each day is filled with combat training to assure their safety against the crazed, belligerent, and deadly— those infected with a mysterious virus.
If the world couldn’t get any crazier, a letter ups the insanity…
After being assured day after day that the world outside their little camp had been compromised, Brooklyn’s cabin-mate, Dawson Winters, finds a letter that turns everything they’d known upside down. There is a world outside the trees that surrounds their camp, and the virus they all feared seems non-existent.
Determined to see it herself, Brooklyn plots with others to attempt an escape…
On the outside, Brooklyn finds the world is as normal as ever. But when they are attacked in the city, they dispose of their attackers far more efficiently than any normal human.. Is there more to Brooklyn and her friends then just being highly trained?
As their exploration continues, the group is faced with impossible feats. Betrayal, love, death, and a powerful sense of camaraderie lead Brooklyn and her friends to fight for their life, their freedom, and most of all, each other.
My review:
After what was thought to be a virus outbreak around the world Brooklyn Harper finds herself in a rural camp with others her age cut off from their friends and family. Those at the camp are going through combat training to be able to fight against the crazed infected with the virus.
When one of Brooklyn’s camp mates finds out that the world outside their camp is not what they thought and the virus seems non-existent they decide to attempt an escape. Finding the world seeming absolutely normal in the city they don’t know what to think until they are attacked yet again and discover a plot against them sending the group on the run for their lives.
Omen Operation is the first book in the Isolation series by Taylor Brooke. A pretty fast paced adventure it drops a reader right into the action and took a couple of chapters for me to figure out what was happening but when I did I really became engaged in the story.
After a few chapters of this read I really started getting to know the characters a bit better and began to understand the situation they were in I couldn’t help but root them on. Without saying too much this has a bit of a different twist on a zombie-ish story and the plot actually became quite intriguing.
Although there was plenty of action to this and a good explanation of the situation this does feel like the first book in a series and leaves the reader wanting more at the end, the story had so much more that could be told and done. After this first book though I’d definitely be interested in seeing what happens on the adventure from here.
Overall, a good start to a new series, fast paced and full of action.

Excerpt:
“About time he showed up.” The sheriff tucked his napkin in his shirt collar. “Now we can eat.”
Callie halted mid-sip of her wine. “What?”
“I said we can eat. Hector finally decided to show up.” Dan whistled. “And just look at him. Why, yer feller’s dressed as cocky as the king of spades.”
Since her back faced the entrance, Callie had to turn around in her chair to have a look. The minute her eyes spotted him, stunned disbelief choked off her airway. Parker slowly strutted to the table like he had all the time in the world to show off his good looks. Black trousers clung on the man’s muscled torso in a totally captivating manner, accentuating his long legs.
His shoulder-length hair was now short and slightly curling at the collar of his white shirt. She sure liked those curls. That scruff of sandpaper beard had been removed, but he’d left some short sideburns. The clean-shaven look only served to make his bronze eyes more appealing.
Callidora knew there was absolutely nothing you could do to the man to make him a dandy. Parker had rough, dangerous looks, a man to die for through and through. He gave her a dimpled smile. She quickly chugged her wine, spun back around to the table and grabbed the bottle for a refill.
A manly scent of sandalwood wrapped around her senses when he stepped beside her. Callie’s nerves were so on edge, the rim of the bottle rattled on her glass. Parker slid his hand over the top of hers and assisted her with the pouring. His touch pushed the shakes in her hand into full blown quakes which rippled through her body at breakneck speed. He took the bottle from her and placed it back on the table.

My review:
Presley Caine had taken a job at the local funeral home because of the increase in pay over her pizza delivery job. What she didn’t expect was to have to work the funeral of the boy she had a crush on since moving to the town of Mystique. But as the service wrapped up and everyone was leaving Bauer Grant suddenly begins to move in his coffin and comes back to life.
Bauer had never noticed Presley before his untimely death but when he awakens he stares right at her and asks for her when they rush him back to the hospital. Shortly after Bauer’s return more people begin to cheat death causing a massive rush of those that are sick to rush to the town of Mystique hoping for their own miracles. For some reason though those that are being resurrected seem to be all attracted to Presley in some way.
Mystique is a young adult paranormal thriller that somewhat had a Stephan King’ish vibe to it for me other than being written for young adults. Maybe that’s partly because of it taking place in a town in Maine but the idea of those that had died coming back to life seemed to be something right up his alley too.
The plot reminded me a bit of other TV shows and books I’d heard of but I still found myself caught up in it fairly quickly. The pace was pretty good other than a bit in the middle seemed to slow down for me waiting for more of the explanation to be given but otherwise it was a pretty good read throughout with the ending giving answers but leaving a reader wondering if it may continue on.
I would warn readers that this book comes with a bit of a love triangle to it. Presley is the type of girl that is pretty much a loner due to the way she’s been raised she shies away from getting attached to anyone but after Bauer’s return he is immediately drawn to her. Presley however is also spending a lot time with Bauer’s best friend Sam which of course raises feelings there too. This dynamic didn’t bother me but it may to some readers so just a bit of a head’s up.
Overall, a well written, intriguing YA paranormal thriller with a definite creepy vibe.
