My Soul Immortal (Fated Eternals #1) by Jen Printy

My Soul Immortal (Fated Eternals, #1)My Soul Immortal by Jen Printy
My rating: 2.5 of 5 stars

Jack tries to do the right thing and stop a robbery but when he is shot he needs to leave town yet again. During the robbery Jack was shot and since he is immortal those wounds will heal very quickly and give away his secret so again he finds himself moving and starting over.

After heading across the country and beginning to settle in a new town again Jack meets Leah Winters who bares a striking resemblance to the love of Jacks life, Lydia, who died years before. Jack finds himself drawn to Leah, wondering at first if she is even real the resemblance is so shocking.

My Soul Immortal is one of those reads that I just couldn’t find myself getting engaged into the book at all. It started off with such a bang with the robbery scene but after that it just really seemed to slow down for me. It’s not a bad read at all, just really never grabbed me personally.

I think this is a case of something being a bit too much angst for my taste as the first half is all about the lost love and new woman looking like her. I knew from the synopsis that there would be more to it but it just took a bit long getting there that it lost my interest by the time we get further into the story.

Overall, 2.5 stars, a bit too slow overall for my taste focusing more on the relationship too long and not expanding the whole immortal portion sooner.

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Genres: Adult, Paranormal Romance

Teens are turning up dead, and it will take a special team to catch a killer.

Derek Doyle has been a member of the Paranormal Investigations Team since the monsters revealed themselves to the world. Considering that he thinks a monster is needed to catch a monster, he’s definitely in the right place. As a lone wolf not used to letting many people in, neither man nor beast was prepared for the effect consultant Dr. Ever Chace has on them.

Growing up human in a world of supernatural creatures, Dr. Ever Chace has always felt a need to be special, to stand out. When asked to consult on a case where teens are being brutalized, she relishes the chance to make a difference and help stop a monster. But working alongside a wolf who she’s so drawn to could be the beginning of something Ever might never have envisioned.

Fate and Destiny have a funny way of creeping up on you when you least expect it. With a murderer on the loose, Ever and Derek will have to put their attraction to one another aside while the hunt continues.

Easier said than done… right?

EXCERPT:

They left the station and made the short journey to his car. Again, he opened the door for her, and she slid in with an easy smile. He rounded the

car and slipped into the driver’s side. Derek started the engine and reversed, edging the car out of the parking spot before he snuck a peek at Ever.

Her eyes were closed, and the faint sound of her breathing was all he heard as Ever fell asleep beside him. He had no idea where she lived, and he was loathe to wake her.

Home, take home, the wolf spoke to him, projecting his thoughts into Derek’s human mind.

With little option left, he drove the car to his house close to the airport and parked. Getting out of the car, he went around, opened the passenger door, and very carefully hoisted Ever up into his arms. She wrapped her arms around his neck and rested her head on his shoulder. His wolf howled its approval as the soft heat of her breath danced on his neck.

He shuddered under the intense feeling of pleasure that rippled through him, instantly feeling guilty because of the horrors the poor teens had been subjected to. But as Ever’s breathing deepened and dusk began to settle on the city, Derek strode into his house, startled by a stunning realization. This woman in his arms called to him on a most primal level and captivated both man and wolf.

Goddamn it—he wanted to keep her.

Zoo 2 by James Patterson

Zoo 2Zoo 2 by James Patterson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jackson Oz, his wife Chloe and their son have been hiding out in the frozen tundra in Greenland trying to avoid the rabid animals that are still attacking around the planet. Jackson receives word yet again that they want his help to try to stop this epidemic so the trio leave to join the other scientists but soon find it’s more than animals that are attacking now.

Zoo 2 is a relatively short follow up to James Patterson’s Zoo novel. It’s a really fast paced read bringing the reader back to the world that something has happened to make the animals turn on humans.

In this edition a new horror has begun for the scientists to try to figure out. Sometimes the story got a bit far-fetched in my opinion again but it was still a fun read overall. The ending in this one is a bit of a cliffhanger so I’m guessing maybe we will be seeing more of Jackson Oz in the future and I will continue to follow along and giggle at some of the over the top action and await out the intense moments until the world might be saved again.

Excerpt:

Carson scrubbed his hand over his face, his gaze locked on Gemma as she worked the

room. Teeth flashing in a brilliant smile, she peered into the dark corner, her confident

steps slowing, more cautious as she approached. Another few steps brought her closer,

into his personal space, and then all of a sudden her feet came to a resounding halt. When

their gazed clashed, her eyes went wide, like she’d seen a ghost.

He supposed she had.

She searched for the nearest chair to support herself, but her hand faltered and pushed

it out of reach. As the metal legs scraped over the wood floor, Gemma sucked in a quick

breath, and faltered backward, her too high heels failing her trembling legs this time.

Before she toppled, Carson moved swiftly. He pushed from his chair, took three

measured steps, and gathered her into his arms.

The instant he touched her, sexual energy arced between them. Forget the emergency

back-up system at the hospital. With the barest of touches they could generate enough

electricity to light up an entire New York block in a black out—for a solid week. He

dipped his head, his mouth inches from hers. Her enticing floral scent seeped under his

skin and took him back to the day he’d had her beneath him. Jesus. He drew on every

ounce of strength he possessed to stop himself from reacquainting his lips with hers, to

lose himself in the sweetness of her mouth—between her legs.

He brushed his knuckles over her warm cheek, a soft caress that brought heat to her

dark, honey flecked eyes. “Hi Gemma,” he whispered, pitching his voice low, for her ears

only.

For one shocked moment she just stood there, then she drew in a quick, shaky breath.

“Sailor boy?” Those soft, barely there words fluttered past trembling lips and washed

over his face, filling him with a need he hadn’t experienced in a long time. As her voice

vibrated through him, his pulse skyrocketed, his cock throbbing against his zipper. It

clamored to get out, to feel her soft palms wrapped around it. Christ, he couldn’t stop

thinking about the ways she’d explored him that night, her hands curious, her touch

urgent, needy, looking for so much from him. His blood flowed thick and heavy and he

clenched down on his teeth, fighting to keep himself in check. Thank fuck he wasn’t

wearing scrubs. He didn’t need everyone in the bar knowing he was sporting the hard on

of the century.

“Yeah, it’s me, but the name is Carson.” She stared at him wide eyed, her chest rising

and falling in an erratic pattern. “Say it,” he whispered in a soft voice. She shook her

head, like she was trying to wrap her brain around this turn of events. He touched her

chin lightly, softly brushing his thumb over her cheek, waiting, as she grounded herself in

the moment. “Say it, Gemma,” he repeated.

A long pause and then she murmured, “Carson.” Her voice was soft, sultry, sensuously

low and caressed his cock in the most mind fucking ways.

“The next time you’re in my bed, that’s the name you’re going to use.”

She stiffened, but he held her tighter, not daring to let her out of his hold this time.

No, this time he was damn well determined to find out who she was and why she’d given

her virginity to a boy she’d didn’t even know—and never intended to see again.

My review:

Attending a charity event after returning to Southampton Carson Reynolds walks in to find the one that got away. Years ago Carson had a wonderful night with a beautiful girl that he still hasn’t gotten out of his mind and now after all these years she is standing in front of him. Now to only make sure this time he gets her name.

Gemma Carr holds onto her bad girl reputation like armor to keep men from trying to get too close to her. When Carson shows up in her life after ten years she fights with all her might to stay away from him but when he comes up with an offer to be his fake fiancee for the summer offering much needed cash she could use for her business she can’t find a reason to say no.

When first picking up Engaging the Bachelor the first thing I see in the book is a note from Cathryn For that this story has been inspired by Dr. McDreamy from Grey’s Anatomy. This peaked my interest from the start but she also says that the setting in the story was inspired by the show Revenge. Now a mix of these two definitely got my curiosity going.

After finishing this story I’d have to say the comparisons to the two above shows really helped bring it more to life while reading. Now, let’s just say that Ms. Fox has done McDreamy one step farther than what we’d ever see on television and given us the behind the bedroom door scenes to make the imagination run wild. A definite hot and sexy relationship between the girl from the wrong side of the tracks and this hot rich drool worthy doc.

Overall, steamy, sexy and fun watching this couple take their fake relationship to a new level.
