I was always the good girl.

Then when the pressure became too much, I took off and found me a bad boy.

Niko. The hot, British rock star and frontman of the Halos.

He took my angel wings and gave me a lot of things, well, everything but the Big O.

And fidelity.

So with my #fail in hand, I did the worst thing imaginable.

I went home. The insta-nagging, criticism, and impossible expectations reminded me why my life #sucked—the reason I left in the first place.

Well, everything was the same except for JQ, my high school crush. With a snug T-shirt and jeans that fit in all of the right places, it looks like he became man and maybe it was time for me to become a woman.

#Kissing is a sexy, rock star romance for new adult, college, and contemporary romance readers who enjoy love stories with an HEA.

Author’s note: #KISSING is a full-length, standalone novel. Due to strong language and content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

EXCERPT:

I used to be a good girl. I used to be many things. Now I just make it up as I go along. Most of the time I don’t even know what I’m doing. Only that right now, I like the way this feels.

My moan disappears into the grinding of a guitar as I squeeze my eyes shut. I make my own stars as phosphenes flicker and dance behind my shuttered lids, winding through my vision in silver and yellow. I’m close, but not close enough for my mind not to wander.

JQ and I found a field as far from town as we could, dimming the city light. His fingers rested just inches from mine. We were young and nervous enough to make an

excuse: a science project for Mr. Wilkins. We watched a celestial show in the sky that night, drifting to sleep under a summer blanket of stars. When dawn kissed our cold cheeks awake, we clasped hands. Then he kissed me, and I ran away.

Our lives went in parallax and here I am, my back arching as I call out with pleasure while my boyfriend has his head between my legs. I shouldn’t be thinking about someone else. But he accidentally called me Heather once—whoever that is. These days the line between right and wrong is a blur. But pleasure is pleasure. And I can’t deny Niko makes me feel good. I’ll settle for good.

Fourth World by Lyssa Chiavari

Fourth WorldFourth World by Lyssa Chiavari
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fourth World is a rather complex fantasy tale that takes place upon Mars. In the year 2073 the planet has renewed life and people from Earth have began to inhabit it. Isaak is a teenager whose father has left him and his family but when he starts digging into his father’s things he finds an ancient coin that seems to have come from previous inhabitants of the planet. Stumbling on what his father had been looking into Isaak finds himself traveling back to a Mars of the past that was known as Iamos.

In the past on Iamos the planet is dying and people are living in domed cities for protection. Nadin has been trying to find a way to save her planet but when she stumbles upon finding a Isaak, a stranger to her dome, she believes she may have found the way to save her people.

Such an interesting story the author has come up with Fourth World. Isaak felt like a normal teen that we would know, dealing with school and trying to approach the girl he likes etc. Only this teen is growing up on Mars with his family so things are slightly different already than our planet.

Once we get used to Isaak’s world on Mars though we get time travel tossed into the read and end up on an ancient Mars which actually seems more of a futuristic sci-fi jump. The inhabitants all have technology they rely upon to survive and a world that is like a dystopian read with the planet dying and trying to survive in their world.

Definitely a intriguing read all throughout with the imagination involved in this tale. I would certainly be interested in continuing this series with everything that was involved.

Bryce

I never should’ve kissed her. It happened almost four years ago, the night of our high school graduation. I’ve always wanted to be more than friends with Jen, and after we kissed, I wanted her more than anything. But I can’t have her. I won’t let myself. She needs to get out of here. She needs to start a new life, far away from her old one. So I’ll keep pushing her away, even though it kills me to do so. When she finally leaves, it’ll destroy me, but at least she’ll be happy. And that’s all I care about.

Jen

Bryce is my best friend, and has been for as long as I can remember. If it weren’t for him, I’d probably be living on the streets, but instead I’m in college and about to graduate. I’ve been applying for jobs and might end up leaving Chicago, but I don’t want to leave Bryce. I love him, and I know he loves me too. I could tell when he kissed me four years ago. But after that night, he refused to be anything more than my friend. Now time is running out. I might be moving away, ending any chance of Bryce and me ever being together. I know he wants to be with me, so why won’t he ask me to stay?

EXCERPT:

Jen

I don’t think Chad’s the guy for you.” Bryce says ‘Chad’ like it’s the dumbest name he’s ever heard.

“Oh, really?” I say, crossing my arms. “Then who’s the right guy for me?”

There it is. Another chance for Bryce to say how he feels about me. Another chance for him to ask me out. But does he do it? Of course not.

He shakes his head. “I don’t know who the right guy is, but I know it’s not Chad.”

I sigh in frustration. “I have to go.” I get in my car. “I’ll see you later.” I pull on the door until he moves enough for me to close it.

“Hey.” He taps on the window as I start the engine.

I roll the window down. “What?”

“Are you going to dinner with him or not?”

Now I’m angry. Bryce always makes me like this. Loving him one minute, hating him the next. Well, it’s not hate, but it’s complete and utter annoyance and frustration.

“Not that it’s any of your business,” I say, “but yes, I am going to dinner with him. Goodbye, Bryce.” I roll my window up and pull out of my parking space and drive off. When I glance in the rearview mirror, I see Bryce still standing there, his head hung down, his hands wrapped around the back of his neck. He does that when he’s mad or frustrated. So he feels the same way as me. Good. We can both be miserable.

But why is that good? Why can’t we just be happy? Why can’t we be together like we want to be? And if we’re not going to be together, why aren’t we able to move on and be happy with other people?

Because we’re Jen and Bryce. That’s why. We’re best friends and we love each other and we’re meant to be together. But for some stupid reason we can’t.

And that stupid reason is Bryce.

Cover Reveal: Lavender in Bloom by Lily Velez with giveaway

Lavender in Bloom
Lily Velez
Publication date: July 25th 2016
Genres: Historical, Romance, Young Adult

It’s the year 1802 in Avignon, France…

Noah Capet has spent most of his young life living simple and unvaried days in the hushed countryside of southern France. Quiet, reserved, and diffident, his preference for existing is to do so in solitude, keeping to himself both in town and on his family’s farm—a predilection that’s altogether disrupted when a newcomer to town by the name of Jeremie Perreault begins an unremitting quest to befriend him.

Jeremie is everything Noah is not. Charismatic and gregarious, he leaves a trail of charmed admirers in his wake wherever he goes. Expressive and idealistic, he talks without end about his deep love for old books and his spirited dream to one day travel the world on a literary pilgrimage.

Over the course of a single summer, the two form an unlikely friendship, but just as quickly as it develops, it soon entirely dissolves as they’re forced to face the truth of what has unexpectedly emerged between them.

Lavender in Bloom is a tender and tragic coming-of-age story about first love and self-discovery, and a poignant reminder that time is fleeting and always takes with it the choices we’re too afraid to make.

When the Owl Sings by David C. Maloney

When the Owl SingsWhen the Owl Sings by David C. Maloney
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After winning a huge award journalist Mason Rhimes finds himself having some very vivid dreams. Having his boss offer him a month off Mason decides to take the time to go visit his father across the country. While there Mason’s dreams continue to plague him and he begins to see that the dreams seem to be prophetic but he doesn’t know what to do about them.

When the Owl Sings is a debut novel by David C. Maloney. I wasn’t too sure on what the book would really be about and decided to take a risk to see if this would be one I’d like since it was categorized as a mystery/thriller and sci-fi/fantasy and I’m a huge fan of mixed genres in books and wow, I’m glad I did pick this one up.

The book starts off going back to 899 A.D. in the middle of what seems like a game of something similar to soccer that ends with a human sacrifice. That beginning certainly grabbed my attention, but then we jump to 2017 to meet Mason with his dreams then onto finding out that there are going be terrorists involved in this plot.

All the twists and turns starting out this book may seem a bit jumbled and maybe even a bit random but trust me, in the end this turns into an intricately wound read that I couldn’t put down. The world building in the story was excellent giving the reader just enough to want to continue on and find out how everything being introduced could possibly end up being related.

Overall, definitely a book that I would recommend checking out, an amazing debut and would look forward to reading more by this author.
