EXCERPT:

“I think it’s safe to say it would be safer for you if you took your bike to work.”

He winked at her.

“Ha, funny.” She looks at the people who gathered around; some were locals, and some were tourists. What she enjoyed the most was the view of downtown Montreal.

Nick waited for her to get settled on the steps of the Chalet du Mont Royal before handing her back a vanilla ice-cream cone.

“Wasn’t that fun?”

“Yes, it was. But I don’t know how I’m going to get back. My legs are so tired.”

“What’s the rush?”

Olivia shrugged and smiled at him.

“Is there somewhere you have to be?”

“Do you?” She acted nonchalant, not wanting to give Nick the satisfaction that she was easily available.

He smiled appreciatively. “Great, we both have nowhere to be. So there’s no rush.”

He glanced down and frowned. “You better start working on that ice cream before it drips.”

Olivia licked her ice cream, making more of a mess of herself. She laughed, and Nick handed her more napkins to help her clean off her sweater.

“You know what else I haven’t done in ages?” She looked up at Nick, who sat one step above her.

“What’s that?”

“Ping pong.”

He made a funny face like she said something revolting.

“Come on, who doesn’t like ping pong?”

“Just to let you know, I’m silently judging you.”

Olivia glanced at his gray polo shirt with happy faces scattered all over it.

“Don’t you dare be judging me, Montgomery. Where did you find this lame top?” She playfully ran her hand across his chest, feeling him stiffen under her touch. His smile slowly faded and out of nowhere, there was a particular affliction overshadowing his face.

“Don’t worry, Montgomery, my hands are clean.” She put her hand up to show him.

“No, it’s not that.” His voice had become heavier. “There something I’ve wanted to tell you.” Something in his tone caused for concern. Then she thought maybe he didn’t want things to go back to the way they were. Maybe he realized during their time apart that he’d rather be just friends. Or worse … there was someone else. She was afraid of what he was about to say. Whatever it was, it wasn’t good. She could feel the presence of it, this thick air hovering above them. Olivia didn’t know if it was the ice cream or this familiar feeling of complete disappointment because the tugging in her stomach began to grow.

Aware of his stare, she glanced up to find his eyes on her, and for a moment Olivia wished he would kiss her to make it all go away.

Genres: Dystopian, Paranormal, Young Adult

There are descendants of angels walking among us. Ember is one of them.

Embers is an epic paranormal adventure/romance about a seventeen year old girl who discovers that she’s immune to fire and any other injury when she’s in a horrific car crash that kills her parents. Following a violent episode with her aunt’s boyfriend, Ember flees Ohio to live with an old relative in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Ember’s exuberance at escaping a bad home life soon turns to trepidation when she learns that she’s a Watcher, a descendant of angels.

While Ember is instructed about her heritage and the powers that go along with it, she strikes up friendships with two teenagers who live in a frightening walled compound in the forest. Inexplicitly drawn to one of the young men in particular, an impossible romance develops. But it’s cut short when Ember discovers that her new friends are fighting on the opposite side of a war that’s been raging between two factions of Watchers for thousands of years. When the compound’s inhabitants threaten the townspeople, Ember takes action, sealing her fate in the ancient battle of good versus evil, and the grayness in between. Ember is up to the challenge, until she realizes that she isn’t only fighting for the lives of the locals and the souls of her new friends. She may be one of the few champions willing to make a stand for all of mankind as the rapture approaches and the end of days begin.

EMBERS EXCERPT:

Sawyer sobered quickly. The obvious hurt on his face made me regret my words.

“You’re right. I’m a monster. I won’t argue on that account. But your kind isn’t squeaky clean either. Just because your ancestors were arch angels doesn’t give you the right to police the world.” His eyes narrowed. “Do you know how many humans have died from wars that Watchers caused?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I lied.

I was already suspicious about Watchers. Ila scared the crap out of me sometimes with her demeanor and righteous words.

But Sawyer didn’t need to know that I questioned the Watchers myself. His opinion didn’t count.

When I turned back to him, ready to change the subject, I wasn’t prepared for the darkening of his already almost black eyes. He leaned in closer and our breaths mingled. In and out I breathed, allowing his familiar woodsy scent to fill my nose. I know Sawyer. Oh, I know him.

Don’t do it, Ember.

But I couldn’t stop.

When he kissed me, my lips parted automatically.

Deep down, I wanted him, desired him madly, and had from the first time I’d seen him in my dreams.

In that instant, I didn’t care that he was a Demon.

You can visit Karen Ann Hopkins at her website: http://www.karenannhopkins.com.

Karen Ann Hopkins resides in northern Kentucky with her family on a farm that boasts a menagerie of horses, goats, peacocks, chickens, ducks, rabbits, dogs and cats. Karen’s main job is home schooling the kids, but she finds time to give riding lessons, coach a youth equestrian drill team, and of course, write. She was inspired to create her first book, Temptation, by the Amish community she lived in. The experiential knowledge she gained through her interactions with her neighbors drove her to create the story of the star-crossed lovers, Rose and Noah.

Karen grew up about a mile from Lake Ontario in Upstate New York. She was bitten by the horse bug at the age of five, and after diligently taking riding lessons for several

years, was rewarded with her first horse at the age of eleven. The feisty horse’s name was Lady, a Quarter Horse-Thoroughbred cross, who became Karen’s steadfast companion. Through the years, the constant force in her life was horses. Eventually, she found her place as a riding instructor herself. Before accepting her fate in the barnyard, she worked a short stint as a paralegal, traveled abroad, and guided tourists on horseback riding tours in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.

Karen is currently working on her Amish mystery series, Serenity’s Plain Secrets, along with the YA paranormal/fantasy series, The Wings of War, and the continuation of the Temptation series. Karen is also excited to announce the Temptation series has been optioned for TV by Pilgrim Studios and is available on Audible.

Author Interview:

What sets the Wings of War series apart from other YA novels

Even though the Wings of War series is young adult, it’s enjoyed by adults of all ages. That’s one of the things that set it apart from other YA novels. It’s a great cross-over genre series too. Fantasy, paranormal and supernatural fans will love it, but so will contemporary readers. There’s an element of realism to the story that opens it up to so many more people than the average fantasy book. I think one of the reasons are the scripture verses at the beginning of each chapter. They add a depth to the story that you don’t get with every book you read, making it stay in your mind long after you finish it. The series isn’t black or white, either. There’s a lot of murky grayness in these books that people can relate to. It’s also an epic read with rich world building and strong characters that will keep the reader flipping the pages long into the night.

I love to connect with readers on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or at http://www.karenannhopkins.com. Please be on the lookout for the release of ETERNITY, the fourth book in the Wings of War series in December! Thanks for reading!

The Alienation of Courtney Hoffman by Brady Stefani

The Alienation of Courtney HoffmanThe Alienation of Courtney Hoffman by Brady Stefani
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Courtney is turning fifteen and her mother is concerned that she hasn’t given up her imaginary friends and still questions what happened with her grandfather when she was younger. Her grandfather had been obsessed with aliens and one night tattooed Courtney and tried to drown her.

Now Courtney’s mother worries about her being mentally unstable just as her grandfather had been but when Courtney meets Agatha who looks just like the imaginary friend Courtney has been seeing for years Courtney begins to question whether her grandfather had really just been crazy or was there more to this alien theory than she ever who have guessed.

Starting off reading The Alienation of Courtney Hoffman I was a little iffy on whether I’d enjoy this one or not. As the story got more into the sci-fi/alien action involved it really became a fun read though.

I will say what bothered me the most in the beginning and made it a slow starter for one I’d like though was Courtney’s mother. I simply had my jaw dropped at some of the way this woman was treating her daughter if she believed she may be having mental issues. Thankfully though she’s a minor character in an otherwise enjoyable and fun YA adventure.

Overall, a bit of a slow starter for me but ended up really enjoying this one.

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Anatomy of Jane by Amelia LeFay blitz with giveaway

The Anatomy of Jane
Amelia LeFay
(WJM #1)
Publication date: May 31st 2016
Genres: Adult, Erotica, Romance

Jane

I’ve always been on my own. My life used to consist of nothing but work, keeping Allen out of trouble, and if I had time, sleep. Then I became their maid.

Max

Every day more than half a million people tune in to watch my show. They trust me. I know it’s because I’m the only son of the prominent Emerson family. However, I like to believe it because I’m honest no matter what story I report on. I’m honest about everything but the man I’ve been f**king for the last four years… and now her.

Wesley

First I want three things: First Maxwell Emerson and Jane Chapman both in my bed. Second, to be the best bloody chef in the country. Third, to figure out how to simultaneously get the first and second things I want without any of us getting hurt.

THREE PEOPLE.

ONE LOVE STORY….

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

EXCERPT:

“I’ve seen ugly people. I’ve seen pretty people who think they aren’t ugly. Jane Chapman, you are breathtakingly beautiful.”

“You can’t like two people equally,” she whispered as I leaned into her.

“Watch me.” I wanted to kiss her lips, and I was sure she wanted me to, but instead I kissed her forehead.

“Door open,” said the automated door, and we both turned and watched as Maxwell came inside. His blue eyes looked between the both of us.

In a flash, she was on her feet, giving him a quick ‘hi’ before running up the stairs and back into her room.

He sighed and rubbed the back of his neck as he walked into the kitchen. “I think she just might like you more than she likes me.”

Handing him my wine, I leaned against the island and stared up at Jane’s closed door. “If she likes me, she has to like you, because you’re part of me.”

“How is it so easy for you to say stuff like that?” he asked, downing the remaining wine.

“That’s just how it is,” I replied. “That’s just who I am.”

Author Bio:

Amelia LeFay is a character of my own imagination. She’s a single woman in her mid twenties in love with sex. Dirty sex, rough sex, sex of any type. She’s not a whore or a slut. She believes a woman should be aloud to sexually express herself anyway she wishes.

She stands for Gay Rights, Women’s Rights, the rights of Minorities, and Environmental protection.

She can be a bitch but doesn’t think there is anything wrong with that.

She has uneven boobs, stretch marks on her ass, astigmatism, and thighs that rub together as she walks. (Which means no pair of jeans last as long as she wishes they would.)

But most importantly Amelia is a Dreamer…she has dreams so big it scares even her, because if she fails…if she can’t make it…she feels like nothing.
