The Rainbow Clause
Beth Bolden
Publication date: April 3rd 2017
Genres: Adult, Romance
Heisman winner. Member of the National Championship team. NFL Rookie of the Year. Quarterback Colin O’Connor knows he’s become the ultimate romance novel cliché: all the success he’s ever dreamed of but nobody to share it with. Too bad it’s not as simple as asking out the next girl who intrigues him – because the next girl to intrigue him probably won’t be a girl at all.
Unexpectedly, the solution comes in one neat package: Nick Wheeler, lead journalist for a leading sports and pop culture blog. Hired by Colin’s team, Nick comes to Miami to shine a spotlight on the NFL’s most private quarterback.
The heat in Miami rises when Nick discovers that Colin is nothing like the hollow personality he pretends to be in interviews and he’s even hotter in person than on his Sports Illustrated cover. Nick knows this is the story of his career, and after spending his teenage years as a bullied, closeted teen, it hits very close to home. What he needs is to help Colin share his story while keeping their growing relationship from boiling over in the press, but what he wants is to tell the world.

Proof of Lies by Diana Rodriguez Wallach
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Anastasia Phoenix has always felt on the outs wherever she’s been since her scientists parents have moved the family all around the world over the years. When they say there is going to be yet another move Anastasia is of course upset and refuses to speak to them as they leave on yet another trip but little did she know that would be the last time she would see them when a horrible accident happens.
Time passes with Anastasia living with her older sister, Keira, after their parents accident until one night Keira decides to throw a party. The next morning Anastasia believes Keira has male company so she leaves only to return to find a bathroom full of blood and her sister missing. Already having lost her parents Anastasia is determined to find her sister when it seems no one else even believes Keira is even still alive.
Proof of Lies is the first book in the new Anastasia Phoenix series by Diana Rodriguez Wallach. The series is a fast paced young adult contemporary mystery. The story takes readers on an action packed adventure as Anastasia tries to follow any leads she finds to try and locate her missing sister with the help of Marcus, a mysterious bad boy that vows to help Anastasia on her quest.
For the most part this was an enjoyable, fast paced young adult adventure although I will say there were a few times it had me thinking it goes a bit far to be completely believable. Even still with the globetrotting young lead off to save her family it’s still a fun read with the pacing and story even with my thoughts of it veering a bit from reality.
Overall, an interesting start to this series that left me wondering what the author will have in store next.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

EXCERPT:
A sickly smell reached Zack; at the same time a sense of foreboding settled over him. He hadn’t noticed it at first, presuming it was from the kitchen remains. But this was something else.
He swallowed, trying not to breathe as he made his way towards the room. It had to be the bedroom—the only room yet unexplored.
“Stay here,” he growled to Radha. The rustling behind him stopped.
He tugged the sleeve of his hoodie over his hand as he reached for the knob. Careful not to leave any prints, he opened the door.
The smell assaulted him immediately, making him gag. His eyes watered, and he blinked to clear them.
“What is it?” Radha asked.
He didn’t know how to answer. Louis—at least, he assumed it was Louis—lay on the thin carpet. Dried blood, black in the wan light, pooled beneath him. Flies buzzed and writhed around him. He no longer looked human—a specialist would need to tell them how long he’d been there, but Zack’s best guess was about a week—the length of time he’d been missing.
Louis hadn’t fled to Mexico with the casino’s money. He’d bled to death on his bedroom floor.
The puzzle pieces shifted and rearranged themselves in his mind, becoming more entwined and complex, leaving gaping holes of knowledge.
“What?” Radha’s voice was thinner now, anxiety dripping from the word. She shuffled closer, and Zack wrenched the door shut. He spun, blocking her with his body, forbidding her from entering that room. She didn’t need to see her friend like that.
“I’m sorry, Radha.” He kept his arms out, stretched across the hall in case she tried to dart around him. Instead, she stared up at him as tears pooled in her eyes.
“He’s not…” she couldn’t finish.
“I’m so sorry,” Zack repeated.
The tears slipped from her eyes and slid down her cheeks. She let out a gasping sob, and Zack gathered her into his arms and half-carried her out the front door. He breathed in deep gulps of the fresh night air as he held her close.
She cried quietly against his chest, and all Zack could do is offer murmured words of comfort as he stroked her back. When was the last time he’d comforted a woman? Held her close?
Too long.
“We need to call the police,” Zack told her softly as her tears subsided.
She nodded, eyes vague. “Yes.”
“They’ll need to ask us some questions,” he warned her.
“Of course.” The nod was slower this time.
“Radha, you’ll have to tell them about the strange finances at the casino.”
At this, her eyes snapped to his. “Why? We can’t tell them.”
“I think it’s best we do,” he coaxed softly.
“But it doesn’t have anything to do with…” Her eyes widened as it dawned on her. He had to say it aloud, anyway.
“He was murdered, Radha. And there’s every chance it was to do with the casino.”

Meet
the Kincade brothers: they’ll do what it takes to protect their legacy–but
what happens when love gets in the way?
Declan
Kincade has spent so much time chasing success he’s almost forgotten how to
just live. Lately though, his all-business routine has been thrown into
disarray. Brooke Hastings is the best employee Dec’s ever had: polished,
capable, and intelligent. After four years, he’s just realized that she’s also
smoking hot. But their working relationship is too valuable to stake on a
fling, no matter how mind-bendingly pleasurable it promises to be.
What’s worse than never meeting the right man? Finding him, and then working
side-by-side every day while he remains absolutely blind to your existence.
That is, until one temptation-packed road-trip changes everything. Teaching her
gorgeous, driven boss how to cut loose and have fun is the toughest challenge
Brooke’s ever faced. But it’s one that could give both of them exactly what
they need, if Dec will take a chance on a perfect—and perfectly
unexpected—love.
Excerpt:
The sunlight caught like spun gold in the wavy strands of her hair. He liked that her face was makeup free, but mostly he liked that she didn’t need a mask to feel confident. Not that he ever planned to date Brooke, but he’d dated a lot of women who’d refused to leave the house until their makeup had been perfectly applied and every hair was in place.
In his mind, all that preparation took away an opportunity for spontaneity. With his busy schedule, sometimes that’s all he could manage—a last minute invite. Brooke had so much sexy going on she didn’t need all that stuff. And today she’d pretty much proved that she was game for the whole spur-of-the-moment thing. Impressive.
“How many business lunches and dinners have I sat through with you, Mr. Kincade?”
He shrugged. “Too many to count.”
“Bingo.” She pointed. “And do you know what you order almost each and every time?”
“No.”
“Seared ahi.”
“And the problem with that is?”
“Boring.”
“I like ahi.”
“Good for you. But why not expand your horizons? Eating the same old same old every day is like having missionary sex every time the mood strikes.”
And why did she need to bring that up? Because his imagination definitely didn’t need a push in that direction.
“Shake things up.” She waved her hands upward like she was about to take flight. “Be daring. Live a little.”
Damn she was animated. How the hell did someone get like that?
“I’m happy with things the way they are.”
“Are you really?” As she leaned into the table, the unyielding fabric of that tight white tank top across her breasts dominated his attention.
He didn’t respond.
Couldn’t.
He was too . . . distracted.
“You know what they say; all work and no play . . .” she said with a shrug, leaving the remainder of that statement hanging like a noose.
“So you’re saying that eating fish tacos is suddenly going to shake things up in my life?”
“Breaking your same old song and dance routine will. After you’ve opened up the door, anything can happen. Aren’t you the least bit curious?”
The server interrupted them to deliver a large plate of steaming soft tacos, bowls of salsa and sour cream, and two giant froufrou drinks with slices of pineapple and maraschino cherries speared by pink umbrellas.
Oh hell no.
He was not going to drink something that would immediately revoke his man card. But when Brooke plucked the cherry from her glass, dangled it in the air, and captured it with her tongue, he had second thoughts. By the time she settled the bright pink straw between the soft cushion of her lips and sucked the orange frothy drink into her mouth, he figured he’d be game for just about any damn thing. As long as he could watch her do that all day long.
