EXCERPT:

She didn’t know why the angry asshole sitting next to her made her want to fuck his brains out.

Yet something pulled at her.

Maybe it was the challenge.

Or the fact she hadn’t had sex in…hell, forever.

Maybe she needed a night of angry sex to relieve some of the stress of being an overworked OB/GYN at a small hospital.

Maybe she just needed a few explosive orgasms to help her forget about all the debt she had. All the responsibilities.

She peeked out of the corner of her eye at him. Officer Asshole had a shit-eating grin on his face. Surely, it wouldn’t take much to wipe it off.

“Where are you heading?” she asked.

“Taking you home.”

“Take me to your place.”

His head snapped in her direction and the truck swerved when he jerked the wheel. He straightened it out and concentrated back on the road. “What?”

Yep. Now he wore a frown instead of that cocky grin.

“Take. Me. To. Your. Place.” The words were distinct and forceful. She wanted to make sure he knew she wouldn’t take no for an answer.

“Why?” he asked, the suspicion thick in his voice.

“Really?”

“I want to make sure I’m not hallucinating,” he said.

“To fuck me into oblivion.”

His eyebrows rose, but he kept his eyes on the road. “What if I suck at sex?”

“You won’t.” She smirked. “Assholes are always good in bed.”

His brows crept even higher. “Sounds like you know from experience.”

“I do.” Unfortunately, it was the truth.

“Maybe I can’t get it up.”

Carly looked at his lap. The distinct bulge in his jeans kind of shot that lie to bits. “Assholes can always get it up.”

With a cocked eyebrow, he asked, “You have a thing for assholes?”

“I must.”

The Witchfinder’s Sister by Beth Underdown

The Witchfinder's SisterThe Witchfinder’s Sister by Beth Underdown
My rating: 2.5 of 5 stars

In 1645, Alice Hopkins’ husband died in a horrible accident leaving her to return to to the small Essex town of Manningtree where her brother lived to move in with him. Little did Alice know that her brother had changed though with rumors of him having a book of women’s names that accused them of witchcraft. With Alice hiding a pregnancy she slowing begins to uncover the darker side of her brother Matthew.

The Witchfinder’s Sister is a fictional tale based on the real person Matthew Hopkins. Matthew actually was known as a witch hunter in the time the book is based and was known for being responsible for the deaths of 300 women between the years 1644 and 1646. The author has loosely based this fictional tale upon his real life giving readers a look into that era.

I have to say this wasn’t particularly a bad book and I can see some people loving the story but for me I just couldn’t get into most of it due to the slow pacing. The beginning started off rather well and I thought I would also be one loving this read but it became a bit dry for my taste after a while and I just couldn’t get behind Alice or the story she was telling to keep my attention and interest for long.

After pushing through the slowness I didn’t mind the ending of the story too much either but in the end I decided to rate this one at 2.5 stars just for the slowness of the read to me. I liked what the author was trying to do but perhaps there was just too much focus on Alice and not even on Matthew who is the real star of the story to keep up my interest.

Lie to Me by Jess Ryder

Lie to MeLie to Me by Jess Ryder
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Meredith grew up being raised by her father when her mother left them while Meredith was very young and now she remembers very little about the mother she barely knew. When cleaning out her father’s place before a move Meredith comes across an old VHS tape that is obvious it has something to do with her mother. Meredith’s father objects to Meredith watching the tape but she is determined to find out more about her past.

After viewing the tape Meredith is more confused than ever about what happened to her mother. It seemed that she really had psychological problems but her mother had mentioned a murder that may or may not have happened thirty years ago so Meredith decides to look into the matter and find out once and for all what happened in the past.

Lie to Me by Jess Ryder is a mystery/thriller that is told from alternating time lines and points of view throughout the story. Part of the book is flashing back to a character named Cara who was killed before Meredith was ever born that Meredith’s mother somehow had something to do with. Then the other story is following Meredith’s as she digs through the past trying to find out just what had happened.

For me this book ran hot and cold throughout reading as I found myself enjoying Meredith and her quest for the truth about the past but then with the chapters glimpsing back into Cara and her life I found myself a bit disconnected with her character. I really couldn’t put my finger on why I would become bored with Cara’s story, perhaps knowing she had been murdered there just wasn’t an intensity to dragging out the buildup to the murder or she just wasn’t a favorite character of mine overall. In the end though I struggled with rating the story since parts of it I had completely enjoyed but felt others drag on so I decided to rate right down the middle with three stars.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Confessions of a Former Puck Bunny by Cindi Madsen Excerpt Reveal with giveaway

Every addict has their relapse.

CONFESSIONS OF A FORMER PUCK BUNNY

Taking Shots #4

Cindi Madsen

Releasing May 8th, 2017

Entangled Embrace

Confession #1:

I used to be a puck

bunny, but after a hockey player broke my heart, I gave up all things hockey.

Now I’m just focused on finding a way to pass my math class so I can graduate

college.

Confession #2:

Ryder “Ox” Maddox’s

deep, sexy voice sends fuzzy tingles through my entire body, and I’m powerless

to stop it. Which is a big problem since the hot, surprisingly funny hockey player

is my new math tutor.

Confession #3:

I can’t stop

thinking about how ripped Ryder is from all his hockey training, and how fun

it’d be to cross lines with him.

Confession #4:

I kissed a hockey

player and I liked it.

Confession #5: If I’m not careful, I might relapse

and fall for Ryder, and then I’ll be totally pucked.

Every

thought turned to how strong he was. How much I’d like to see all those muscles

without a shirt in the way.

Once

he’d counted off twenty-five, he stood and, as if he’d been reading my mind,

peeled off his shirt.

I

stared. Not subtly, either. Nope, totally unabashed, taking in every dip and

groove of his sweat-glistened skin.

“Since

we’re playing dirty,” he said, shooting his wadded shirt over to his bag. He grabbed my hand. “Last machine. I’m not sure you can handle it, though.”

“I’m

not sure you can handle it.” As far

as comebacks went, not my best, but I mentioned he was shirtless and crazy

ripped, right?

He

sat down on the leg machine, the one where the seat reclined at a forty-five-degree angle, and then he lifted the weighted bar

that rested at shin-height with his legs.

He

reached for my hand, and since I’d already talked trash, I took it, even though

I was starting to think I wouldn’t be

able to handle it. He pulled me toward him, and I had no choice but to run my

shins into the weights or to straddle the machine. I chose straddling, but kept

space between us like I had earlier.

My

heart hammered against my rib cage, beating in time with his leg lifts, the

steady clink of the weights filling the air. Ryder’s eyes remained locked on

mine, and energy crackled in the air between us. He sat up enough to run his

hands up my thighs.

A

dart of heat shot through my core, and my breath lodged in my throat. Ryder’s

fingertips skimmed the skin between my pants and shirt and desire danced across

my nerve endings. Still our eyes remained

fixed on each other, and I wasn’t sure I was taking in oxygen anymore.

A

distant part of me whispered that if I didn’t stop this…whatever we were doing,

I’d be in trouble. But fighting my attraction to him was exhausting and the

ache that’d formed between my thighs grew more persistent, drowning out silly

things like common sense.

I

leaned over like I had before, my hands braced on either side of him. He lifted

the weights again, and then he brushed his lips against mine. Just a quick

slide of soft lips.

My

throat went completely dry. I pressed my palm flat against his stomach and

slowly slid it up, feeling his firm chest and the hammering of his heart, which

echoed mine.

Ryder

gripped my hips and pulled me down to sit on his lap, eradicating the space

between us. He lifted the weights with his legs a few more times, each rep

bumping me tighter to him. Friction was definitely happening, and with each

lift, it became clearer and clearer how much it was affecting him as well.

The

tiniest whimper escaped my lips and he raised an eyebrow that added even more

smugness to the curve of his tempting mouth.

Two

could play dirty. So I sank farther into his lap and he groaned.

Of

course, all it did was give me dirty thoughts and turn me on that much more.

He

lifted his legs two more times, the movement shaky. He slowly ran his

fingertips up my arm, across my collarbone, up my neck, and then he reached

back and tugged my hair free of its ponytail.

He

drove his hand into my hair, cupped the back of my head, and for one torturous

moment, time stopped, both of us suspended right there on edge of crossing

lines.
