She’s always had that effect on me. She’s sweet, she’s innocent, and she’s my best friend’s little sister. She thinks she’s going to take over our pro-league baseball team. But she’s going to be so busy trying to keep her virginity intact, she won’t have time to deal with anything else.
One mistake, and I’ll slide into first.
One little slip up, and I’m going deep. Balls deep.
She wants to save herself for marriage?
She’s in the wrong game.

DANNY:
Turning carefully as the sunlight filtered through my bedroom window, I propped up on my elbow and reached out to brush a wayward blond hair behind her ear. My heart ached deep in my chest that she’d grow up without her momma. My sister’s little girl was now mine, and she’d be raised as my own as best I could. Being a single father for the last few years had forced me to grow the fuck up in certain areas, at least all areas other than women. It’s not like I could imagine a woman coming into my life and helping me raise Lyndsay.
“That tickles!” Her little voice surprised me. Big blue eyes looked up at me with an innocence in them that I knew I’d do anything to protect.
“What tickles?” I lifted an eyebrow and reached over to tickle the side of her neck. “This?” Her giggles filled up the air as I reached for her.
“No, Daddy! No!” She swatted at me and rolled off the bed, hitting the floor.
“Hey. You okay?” I moved quickly, ready to scoop her up.
She smiled up at me from the floor. “Yes!” Bounding up, she tickled my neck and ran off toward the living room, her blond curls flying behind her.
“You tricker!” I yelled playfully from the bedroom and got up. I ran my fingers through my hair and walked down the hallway to the kitchen. It was hard to believe Jannie had been gone for five years. Seemed like yesterday she was giving me shit about finding a good woman in my life. Too bad she never found a good man.
“What are you thinking about?” Lyndsay tilted her head to the side as she sat up at the breakfast bar, her little chin propped up in her hands. “You look worried.”
“Nope. Just trying to wake up. I went to sleep with a princess next to me and woke up to a frog.” I pinched the tip of her nose softly. “What happened?”
“A frog! Not me, Daddy.” She pulled back, shaking her head.
“No. You’re right. You’re much too pretty for that.” I walked to the fridge. “What does my girl want for breakfast this morning?”
“Pancakes, and eggs and maybe some bacon. Oh! And some sausage. And that ham we like so much, daddy. The really salty one.”
I laughed and glanced over at her. “Cinnamon rolls it is.”
She huffed and rolled her eyes. “Fine. I’m going to watch cartoons. Are we going to Mimi’s again today?”
“Yeah, baby. You know it’s baseball season right now. I have to be there when they tell me to.”
“I hate baseball season.” She walked toward the living room with her shoulders rolled in. I needed to find a damn day off to spend with her. The cute little thing had no clue that I was her uncle instead of her father. She didn’t need to know. That was the decision mom, dad and I made the day we buried my sister. It was better this way, and I was old enough and wealthy enough to take Lyndsay.
“Not that I could do it without you,” I mumbled to the empty air around me. My mom and dad had been more than helpful, and between the three of us, Lyndsay was growing up to be a bright, happy, healthy little girl.
“Dad!” she yelled from the living room.
“Yeah?” I pressed the button on the stove and walked to the edge of the kitchen.
“When are you going to bring home someone that can do my hair right?”
I put my hand on my hip and gave her a funny look. “Are you saying I’m not a good beauty shop lady or something?”
She giggle-snorted, the sound of it warming my soul. “Dad. We need a girl around here.”
“Well, we have one.” I pointed to her. “You!”

The Summer of Second Chances by Maddie Please
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Lottie had a pretty stable life with her long time partner not needing for anything and feeling comfortable until one fateful night when her world was torn apart. Broke, single and completely lost after that night Lottie has to rely on the kindness of a friend for a place to stay in a crumbling cottage in Devon in exchange for fixing the place up.
After setting into the mess of a cottage Lottie finds her days filled with cleaning and scrubbing while she takes a look back on just where things went wrong in her life. With the help of a handsome neighbor things start sorting themselves out with the cottage but will she ever figure out how to learn to live and love again?
The Summer of Second Chances by Maddie Please is one of those lovely little reads that makes you think about life. Lottie does a lot of self evaluating and figuring things out in the book flashing back to how she ended up where she did. She was an easy to like character as you felt her moving on and growing with every turn of the page.
The one thing I would have like to have seen more of in this book was a bit more interaction between Lottie and Bryn. I think the author did a good job not rushing Lottie into a new man which was nice and giving her time to grow on her own but I also wouldn’t have minded the romance blooming a bit more before the ending came.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Between You and Me
Lynn Turner
Published by: The Wild Rose Press
Publication date: Summer 2017
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Love at first sight strikes Seattle scientist Finnegan Kane at the worst possible moment, paralyzing him as he’s pitching his cutting-edge idea to powerful New York venture capitalist Emanuela Monroe…
Finn survived the crash that killed his parents when he was sixteen. Twenty years later, his smart devices are about to redefine what it means to be disabled.
Emanuela makes dreams come true for a living, but still longs to fulfill her own. Despite Finn’s stunning secret, she thinks his idea might be worth the risk…and he’s determined to show her that he is, too.

Author Bio:
Lynn Turner inherited her writing gene from her mother, who created fantastic tales about witches, invisible worlds and talking animals, and read them to her children at night. Lynn isn’t as great with the voices as her mother, but Rome wasn’t built in a day.
She discovered romance far too young, when a mission to find a young adult fantasy title led her to historical romance. She spent hours skimming those sumptuous pages, drinking in the vivid descriptions of settings and clothes, feisty heroines and looming lords, and poetic language. (She may or may not have enjoyed the PG-13 bits too, tucking a new title beneath her pillow at night).
She enjoys character-driven narratives most, and anything that transports her someplace else. Passionate about food and travel, she features healthy doses of both
in the stories she crafts. Above all, she is dedicated to writing inclusive stories that explore what it means to be imperfectly human.
When she isn’t writing, she’s traveling, dreaming of traveling, or watching old Samantha Brown travelogue videos and wishing she had her job. She and her husband share their home in California with their two extraordinary children, and hope to add a little furry one to the family very soon.

EXCERPT:
Rounding a corner, I flew right into a pair of bright aqua eyes. I knew those eyes, and the recognition felt like a slap to my face. I halted, not just to avoid collision but because of absolute shock.
Impossible. How’s he here?
“Blake,” Mack gasped.
I remained stunned, still hovering inches from his face. Where were all the Defenders? How did he just waltz in? Why wasn’t he bound? I couldn’t process what I was seeing.
Trying to recompose myself in those milliseconds we both remained in a locked gaze, it dawned on me that Jaxon had not rushed his brother. I only heard heavy breathing behind me, and I wanted desperately to turn around to see what Jaxon was doing. Was he preparing for an attack, or was he awaiting my command?
Yet, I couldn’t peel my eyes away from Blake. Those aqua pools pulled me closer, beckoned me nearer even though our faces were mere inches apart. Frustrated, I commanded myself to move. Show some strength. Straighten your back, for heaven’s sake. I’m like a freaking hunchback, practically bowing to him. What’s wrong with me? Back up… now.
I didn’t move. I couldn’t. It was like my bedroom all over again, when I’d found myself moving toward him, longing to be near him against my will. Only this time, it was worse. He was too close, the magnetic pull reinforced by his nearness. I felt helpless against it, which panicked me more.
He didn’t say anything, his eyes raking my face, searching for Sam. But I’m not Sam, I wanted to shout, though I didn’t. I just kept on gazing into his eyes like a dunce.
You’ve got to be joking, Sam. I heard and felt nothing. I know you’re here. You must be, because I’m freaking stuck in place.
Again, there was nothing to betray her presence until I did the unthinkable. I closed the gap and kissed Blake.
I kissed him like my life depended on it, like I couldn’t get enough of his mouth, like he was the only person in the room, never mind the others’ audible gasps. I wrapped my hands around the back of his neck, pulling him to me. Blake seemed just as shocked as I was by my actions. He stiffened at my touch, groaned under my lips, and then, before I could feel remorse, pulled back from me as fast as I’d come at him, untangling himself from my embrace.
There were those eyes again, probing my face, questions forming but not spoken.

SNEAK PEEKS:
Revenge Served Hot by Sophie Kisker
“Sir? If I promise to obey you in every way, will you keep me safe from him?”
He took a step back, then turned away from me. I risked a glance up. His fists were clenched tight, and when I looked at the side of his face, I saw the vein that always popped out when he was stressed or upset. My question had gotten to him.
“Are you sure you’d be safer with me than with him?”
I took a moment to answer. “Yes. I am.”
He let out a breath and turned back to me.
“I’m not the man you thought you knew. I am not a nice man. I won’t promise to be fair. I will punish you sometimes just because I enjoy hearing you cry. There won’t be any safe words. And forget about any tenderness.”
My mind flashed back to my dreams. “But I’ll be alive.”
He drew in a deep breath and let it out slowly. “Yes.”
A weight that I didn’t realize I was holding slid off me. I had a protector on my side. Now I had to hold up my end of the deal.

The Arms I Run To by Stevie MacFarlane
J.R. watched her. God she was beautiful and oh so foolish. She was taunting him, angry because he knew all her secrets. Still, it was not necessary to put herself in any more danger than she already had. Then he did something he never did, something completely against the rules. He keyed his mic, flipped a switch that connected him to her office and only her office.
“Put is out, Miss Bradley,” he said in warning. “Smoking is bad for you.”
She laughed; a bitter sound that rubbed against his nerves like sandpaper.
“This whole place is bad for me,” she snorted indelicately. “Don’t act like you don’t know what’s going on here,” she jeered. “You’re all nothing but a pack of miserable lap dogs, spying for your master. Fuck you…whatever your name is.” Her voice trailed off as she turned away.
She heard the faint hum stop and knew he’d disconnected. Bastard! Walking to the bathroom she tossed the butt of her smoke into the toilet and flushed it away. Unfortunately the jerk was right.
