The Trouble with Murder by Kathy Krevat
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Colbie Summers never expected to be moving back to her childhood home in the small town of Sunnyside, CA but after her father gets ill that is just what she does. Colbie packed up herself, her son and their pet cat trouble as soon as she could wanting to be there for her father and with her business being small she was able to work on her gourmet cat food in Sunnyside.
Things were actually going well for Colbie after the move with her business taking off and getting herself involved with the Sunnyside Power Moms. When one of the other women in the group is found murdered however Colbie finds herself a suspect in the crime and needs to do whatever she can to clear her name.
The Trouble with Murder by Kathy Krevat is the first book in the cozy Gourmet Cat Mystery series. This opening introduces readers to Colbie who runs a gourmet cat found business and tests her treats on her own feisty feline, Trouble, who has a personality of his own. Along with a chicken that has a doorbell fetish this series certainly has it’s own unique set of critters to gain a chuckle or two and warm the heart.
Colbie was certainly a strong female lead but also realistic on the investigating front in not really knowing where to start or how to go about figuring out the murder. Eventually Colbie finds her way and questions everyone involved opening the door for a few twists and turns as she goes about finding other suspects to clear her name. Definitely a nice start to this series and I’d return just for that wandering chicken alone!
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Sounds like a good one, I passed on this one as I am not a cat lover, but you have tempted me.

I was there at one point but I’m down to just the one kitty now, he’s old and set in his ways and wouldn’t welcome other critters. Of course that doesn’t count the wild ones that run around outside I’ve been known to toss scraps out to though. LOL

Lol. Aww. I just can’t day no when a helpless animal comes across me if I ever go to a pound I’m in trouble the times I went I always wanted all the animals but always ended up bringing one home. It breaks my heart thinking all of the animals in shelters and such. Man I’m such a sucker.

Yeah I know what you mean, many of ours have come from shelters over the years and if I could I would’ve brought them all home.

The place we’ve gone and adopted from is actually a rather nice place. Lots of volunteers interacting with the animals and they are warm and dry with food and med care plus it’s a no kill shelter. Much better than others out there or even breeders that don’t care for their animals.

That’s great Carrie. We are not so lucky around here. My most attached cat to me is a Simease that is about 9 or so and she was even given a C section once she wasn’t able to have babies anymore she was left on the streets to fend for herself. She has a whole lot of emotional problems but she protects and stalks me and I got her to open up more. She use to freak out with men so bad. It was so sad!😭 But she’s a happy fat kitty now.

Reminds me of the kitties in Escape Claws, there was a lot of talk of having to work with them and get them to trust so you’ll relate to that part of the book.
