Honor Among Thieves by Rachel Caine
My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars
Zara Cole has been separated from her family for quite awhile after having medical issues as a young child. Zara’s mother and sister have gone to live on Mars but for Zara that would feel too much like being caged in. She has been surviving on the outskirts of New Detroit living off her wits and what she can steal but when Zara picks the wrong target to steal from and she finds herself in quite a bit of danger.
After stealing the purse guards are sent to retrieve the contents from Zara so she let’s herself get sent to a home for wayward youth that she had done everything to escape from in the past. Just when Zara thinks that her plan to get locked up might keep her safe the man after her makes an appearance but lucky for Zara she is recruited into the Honors, one of the one hundred humans this year selected by the Leviathan, a race of sentient alien ships, to board and explore outer space with them.
Honor Among Thieves by Rachel Caine and Ann Aguirre is the first book in the new young adult science fiction fantasy series, The Honors. The story revolves around street smart Zara who has shunned the alien advancements and technology and chose to live on the streets until she needs an escape. The ship that Zara boards is actually a sentient being with whom Zara forms an intense connection.
There is plenty of action in this new series to keep the pages turning and the excitement level up while reading. The world the authors have built within this first book was one that was quite intriguing and done rather well so far although my one complaint came with just wanting more with a few unanswered questions at the end of this first book. I definitely became hooked on the series though and would rate this one at 4.5 stars while hoping that the story continues to grow and thrive in the next book.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via Edelweiss.
THis sounds interesting!

I am so jealous! I’ve requested this on Edelweiss but I’m stuck in pending. And they’re two of my favorite YA authors. Why isn’t there a pouting emoji? Drat. I’ll have to settle for this.😒
Seriously though, awesome review Carrie! Now I really can’t wait for this!😊

Thanks! Sorry they have left you pending, believe me I was jumping up and down when I got the approval mail for this one and obviously had no patience to wait a couple of months to read it either.

Sigh. I’m glad you got to read it early Carrie. I’m still keeping my fingers crossed. I just reviewed three books for them!😒 Yes, I’m pouting again.😒😒

I didn’t get a quick answer on this one either so there’s still hope that they’ll answer you as long as it’s left open. 🙂

Fingers & toes crossed then. It’s only been 22days, but who’s counting?😠

It seems like mine was longer but I’m not sure, I was at the point though that I thought they would never answer and they did. Funny thing was others were saying how quick EW is at answering and the couple I’d requested sat there for quite awhile, figured it was just me. LOL

It’s definitely not you Carrie. Most of my approvals have been excruciatingly slow!😒

It’s probably just like Netgalley and some are fast and others take quite a while. These days my NG requests sit until archived and then fall off the list eventually quite often but I’m a newbie to EW still so I don’t know if they’d poof off there at some point or what without a decline.
Do you remember I requested one that you had read and loved on NG a while back? That one is still on my pending list and just archived the other day so I guess it’ll move to my library list too.

I’m not sure which book that was Carrie, but I’m sorry you weren’t approved. That’s soo frustrating.😒😠

I had to go double check the title myself but it was The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter. I don’ t really seem to have good luck with requesting older titles most of the time. St. Martin’s seem to be pretty on top of their requests whether it was just added or an older one but for the most part the rest just seem to sit…. not that some I’ve requested the day it was put on the site don’t sit too. 😦
