In the blink of an eye everything changes for Rachel Jenner. While Rachel is out walking in the park with her eight year old son, Ben, he asks if he can run ahead of her in the park. It’s a beautiful day and Rachel has a lot on her mind so why would she worry in what seems like such a safe setting about her little boy? Except when Rachel catches up to where Ben should be he is no where to be found and now Rachel is frantic.

Police are called and the search begins with everyone thinking that Ben simply got lost when he ran ahead of his mother. As the police find some evidence nearby though the search quickly turns into much more when it becomes apparent that someone must have taken the child. In the days that follow everything is done to find the little boy while his mother is tried in the court of public opinion.

What She Knew by Gilly Macmillan is the first book in the Jim Clemo thriller series. The story within is told not only from varying points of view but also through transcripts, interviews, social media and other various means. This style is one that will be hit or miss with readers but it’s often one that enjoy to get all angles of a story. Also, using social media really brought this one into current times to include what seems to happen with any big news story every day in real life.

The varying points of view in this story brought the reader not only into the mother’s life as the worse thing that could happen to her happens but also into the other side with the law as the search begins. There’s also not too much that could be considered more compelling than a child’s life being on the line so it’s easy to say that this one is a real page turner as you wait to find out just what happens with each day that went by. Definitely a good start to this series and would recommend checking this one out.
