About the book:

Some families we’re born into

Some we find for ourselves

When Serenity Alston swabbed her cheek for 23andMe, she joked about uncovering some dark ancestral scandal. The last thing she expected was to discover two half sisters she didn’t know existed. Suddenly, everything about her loving family is drawn into question. And meeting these newfound sisters might be the only way to get answers.

The women decide to dig into the mystery together at Serenity’s family cabin in Lake Tahoe. With Reagan navigating romantic politics at work and Lorelei staring down the collapse of her marriage, all three women are converging at a crossroads in their lives. Before the summer is over, they’ll have to confront the past and determine how to move forward when everything they previously thought to be true was a lie. But any future is easier to face with family by your side.

One Perfect Summer by Brenda Novak is a contemporary novel that was not only infused with a bit of romance which one would expect but also a bit of mystery as to how the characters came to be related. The story changes the point of view among the main characters to tell their stories all throughout the read.

Serenity Alston is a writer who has been going through a bit of a slump since she had learned of her husband’s guilt in a crime and he had gone to jail. Trying to get back into her work and on with her life she had sent her DNA off to a testing site on a whim to see how the process worked for a possible novel and much to her astonishment she learned she had two half sisters out in the world.

Coming from a wealthy and loving family Serenity had no clue what to think of her results so she invited Lorelei and Reagan to her family’s cabin in Lake Tahoe in order for all three to get answers. Just as with Serenity and her problems with her husband Lorelei and Reagan each have their own issues they bring in with them so the three sisters decide to spend the summer together looking to unravel the mystery of their relationship with each other and their lives.

Brenda Novak is another author that I have come to rely on enjoying when I pick up another new read from her. I know with over at least fifty books on the market that she is one well established author that I can count on wonderful writing and a fun story and One Perfect Summer was no exception. I found the family ties angle quite fascinating and enjoyed getting to know each of the ladies and their widely different personalities and lives. Definitely recommend checking this one out.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

It was a shocking experience that jump-started Brenda Novak’s career as a bestselling author–she caught her day-care provider drugging her children with cough syrup to get them to sleep all day. That was when Brenda decided she needed to quit her job as a loan officer and help make a living from home.

“When I first got the idea to become a novelist, it took me five years to teach myself the craft and finish my first book,” Brenda says. But she sold that book, and the rest is history. Her novels have made the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists and won many awards, including eight Rita nominations, the Book Buyer’s Best, the Book Seller’s Best, the Silver Bullet and the National Reader’s Choice Award.

Brenda and her husband, Ted, live in Sacramento and are proud parents of five children–three girls and two boys. When she’s not spending time with her family or writing, Brenda is usually raising funds for diabetes research (her youngest son has this disease). So far, Brenda has raised $2.6 million!
