About the book:

No one can save her.

In order to protect Prince Lucien d’Malvane’s heart, Zera had to betray him. Now, he hates the sight of her. Trapped in Cavanos as a prisoner of the king, she awaits the inevitable moment her witch severs their magical connection and finally ends her life.

But fate isn’t ready to give her up just yet.

With freedom coming from the most unlikely of sources, Zera is given a second chance at life as a Heartless. But it comes with a terrible price. As the king mobilizes his army to march against the witches, Zera must tame an elusive and deadly valkerax trapped in the tunnels underneath the city if she wants to regain her humanity.

Winning over a bloodthirsty valkerax? Hard. Winning back her friends before war breaks out? A little harder.

But a Heartless winning back Prince Lucien’s heart?

The hardest thing she’s ever done.

Find Me Their Bones by Sara Wolf is the second book in the young adult romantic fantasy Bring Me Their Hearts series. This series is definitely one that a reader should start from the beginning and read in order as the story now in the second book has picked up right after the cliffhanger ending of the first and wouldn’t be understood out of order.

In the first book of the series, Bring Me Their Hearts, readers met Zera who was a Heartless, or a twist on what we know of as a zombie. When Zera’s family was killed by Heartless a witch, Nightsinger, decided to spare Zera by making her into a Heartless herself instead of letting her die. By taking her heart Nightsinger had control of Zera and she became the monster she had feared. A Heartless is very zombie like in the urge to murder and their need for raw meat but still looking human and hanging onto a thread of her humanity Zera wanted nothing more than her heart back and to be human again.

When Nightsinger was approached to allow the use of Zera to infiltrate and get close to Crown Prince Lucien d’Malvane Nightsinger made Zera an offer she couldn’t refuse. If Zera could attempt to pass as human and win the Prince’s heart to allow Nightsinger to take his heart she would trade it for Zera’s own and grant her freedom and her life back. Battling the monster inside of her Zera vows to bring Nightsinger the Prince but if she failed Nightsinger would crush her own heart.

Bring Me Their Hearts was one of those books I became cover obsessed and needed to read simply after a glance and thankfully when I did I really enjoyed it. The material was an original take on an old classic and I loved Zera’s snarky zombiefied self right from the beginning. All of that carried over into the second book but the romance did take a seat in the background while progressing the story. This one does have a bit of middle book feel to it even with the action that takes place as we just wind up back to another cliffhanger without anything getting resolved but I’m definitely still a fan and waiting for book three.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
