Music Monday: My how the times have changed edition….

musicmonday

Music Monday is a meme that was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek. You pick a song and/or video and share it on Monday.

The song and video I am sharing today is:

Sylvia – Nobody and Carrie Underwood – Before He Cheats

True story time…. When I was a kid probably one of the very first songs I memorized all of the lyrics to and used to run around singing at the top of my lungs much to the dismay of those that had to listen was Nobody by Sylvia. Now at that age I really had no clue what the lyrics really meant and just found it a catchy song. As an adult now I can’t help but shake my head and feel sorry for that woman desperately clinging to a cheating piece of pond scum. So this got me to thinking about how back then women were told to stand by their man and then think of today’s music which immediately made me think of Carrie Underwood’s song Before He Cheats that couldn’t be further from the feel of Nobody in which she really gets back at that cheating ex and I can’t help but give a little cheer of you go girl! So for today’s post I thought it would be fun to share both tunes. Enjoy!

Lyrics:

Sittin’ in a restaraunt and she walked by
I seem to recall that certain look in your eye
I said, “Who is that?” you said with a smile
“Oh it’s nobody, oh nobody”

Maybe that explains the last two weeks
You called me up dead on your feet
Working late again I ask, “Who with?”
“You said nobody, oh nobody”

Well your nobody called today
She hung up when I asked her name
Well I wonder does she think, she’s being clever?
(Clever)
You say nobody’s after you
The fact is what you say is true
But I can love you like nobody can, even better

Late last night we went for a drive
You were miles away
I ask, “Who’s on your mind?”
You said, “Nobody, why do you ask?”
(Nobody)
Oh her again, I could’ve told you that

We came back home got ready for bed
I said to myself I’ve got one shot left
You’re still mine and I won’t stand in line
Behind nobody, nobody

Well your nobody called today
She hung up when I asked her name
Well I wonder does she think she’s being clever?
(Clever)
You say nobody’s after you
The fact is what you say is true
But I can love you like nobody can, even better

Well your nobody called today
She hung up when I asked her name
Well I wonder does she think she’s being clever?
(Clever)
You say nobody’s after you
The fact is what you say is true
But I can love you like nobody can, even better

Well your nobody called today
She hung up when I asked her name
Well I wonder does she think she’s being clever?
(Clever)

Lyrics:

Right now, he’s probably slow dancing
With a bleached-blond tramp
And she’s probably getting frisky
Right now, he’s probably buying
Her some fruity little drink
‘Cause she can’t shoot whiskey

Right now, he’s probably up behind her
With a pool-stick
Showing her how to shoot a combo
And he don’t know

I dug my key into the side
Of his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive
Carved my name into his leather seats
I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights
I slashed a hole in all four tires
Maybe next time he’ll think before he cheats

Right now, she’s probably up singing some
White-trash version of Shania karaoke
Right now, she’s probably saying “I’m drunk”
And he’s a-thinking that he’s gonna get lucky

Right now, he’s probably
Dabbing on three dollars
Worth of that bathroom Polo
Oh, and he don’t know

That I dug my key into the side
Of his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive
Carved my name into his leather seats
I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights
I slashed a hole in all four tires
Maybe next time he’ll think before he cheats

I might have saved a little trouble for the next girl
‘Cause the next time that he cheats
Oh, you know it won’t be on me!
No, not on me

‘Cause I dug my key into the side
Of his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive
Carved my name into his leather seats
I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights
I slashed a hole in all four tires
Maybe next time he’ll think before he cheats

Oh, maybe next time he’ll think before he cheats
Oh, before he cheats
Oh

    • I knew posting Sylvia was going pretty obscure so it’s not shocking you haven’t heard of it, heck I don’t think I would be able to name anything else by her. I found it funny though that I actually love both of these and will sing right along to both with them but Carrie certainly wins on her message of the jerk just ain’t worth it. 🙂

    • Woohoo! I knew I was pulling this one completely out of obscurity so I’m so glad someone else remembers it! *high fives* It certainly was a catchy tune but I think Carrie certainly has a much better message of moving on and the cheater is just not worth it. 🙂
