Paige Thomas and her family have moved to the quiet town of Shadesboro, PA for a fresh start and to heal after the loss of Paige’s older sister in a tragic accident. Paige blames herself in a way for the accident because she knew that it was coming and couldn’t get anyone to listen to her that night. Paige has visions and premonitions but of course everyone chalks it up to her imagination.

When Paige starts school in the new town she meets a group of girls who are more the local outcasts but Paige feels somewhat drawn to them. The new group has been messing around with practicing magic and when Paige touches a Ouija board and triggers a paranormal event they convince her that she is the fifth needed for their circle to begin real magic but of course things do not always turn out as one would like where magic is concerned.

Nine Candles of Deepest Black is a young adult horror read that while I could see touches of different stories or movies this book took on a life of it’s own and brought an action packed ride from start to finish. There’s ghosts, demons, witchcraft and all sorts of things involved in the story to make a great tale when finished.

Perfect for this particular time of year this book keeps you on your seat with not knowing what could come next. Of course messing around with witchcraft is probably obvious that things may go wrong but the girls start off with what seems to be good intentions to only find that they needed to be careful what they wish for as there is more than one way to obtain your end goal.

Overall, from creepy crawlies to ghosts and demons this was one action packed horror read.

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
